Sinfonia nro 12 (Šostakovitš)

Dmitri Šostakovitšin sinfonia nro 12 (”Vuosi 1917”, d-molli, op. 112) on neliosainen sinfonia, joka valmistui elokuussa 1961 tulevaa kommunistipuolueen kokousta varten. Teoksen valmistumisen jälkeen säveltäjä toimitti toisen hakemuksensa puolueen liittymiseksi. Hänet hyväksyttiin täysjäseneksi syyskuussa 1961.[1]

Šostakovitš omisti teoksensa Vladimir Leninin muistolle. Alkuperäiseen ideaan kuului runollisten tekstien käyttö Leninin elämän kuvaamiseksi neljässä osassa, jotka kuvastaisivat nuorta Leniniä, vallankumouksellista Leniniä, Leninin kuolemaa ja elämää Leninin viitoittamalla tiellä. Teoksesta kuitenkin tuli puhtaasti soittimellinen sinfonia, joka kuvaa vallankumouksellisia tapahtumia neljässä yhtäjaksoisesti esitettävässä osassa. Šostakovitšin 12. sinfonian ensimmäisen osan nimi on Vallankumouksellinen Petrograd. Osa kuvaa Petrogradin eli Pietarin jännitteistä tilannetta, joka lopulta purkautui väkivaltaisesti. Toisen osan nimi on Razliv, joka viittaa Leninin piilopaikkaan Roslivajärvellä. Kolmas osa on nimetty vallankumouksessa keskeisen risteilijä Auroran mukaan. Neljäs osa on nimeltään Ihmiskunnan aamunkoitto, joka kuvastaa vallankumouksen jälkeistä uuden yhteiskunnan nousemista tsaarien Venäjän raunioista.[1]

Šostakovitšin ystävä Lev Lebedinski väitti, että säveltäjä oli suunnitellut todellisuudessa Lenin-parodiaa eikä Lenin-tribuuttia, mutta revisoinut sinfonian viime hetkellä pelättyään parodisuuden olevan liian ilmeistä.[1]
