Robert Mondavi

Robert Mondavin viinitilan sisäänkäynti

Robert Gerald Mondavi (18. kesäkuuta 1913 – 16. toukokuuta 2008) oli yhdysvaltalainen viininvalmistaja. Hän loi uransa Kaliforniassa, ja hänen katsotaan yleisesti tehneen Napa Valleyn viineistä maailmankuuluja.[1][2]

Virginia-nimisessä kaupungissa Minnesotassa syntyneen Mondavin vanhemmat olivat italialaisia maahanmuuttajia.[1] Mondavit muuttivat Kaliforniaan Robertin ollessa 10-vuotias. Hän valmistui Stanfordin yliopistosta vuonna 1937.[2] Kuvernööri Arnold Schwarzenegger ja First Lady Maria Shriver ilmoittivat 20. elokuuta 2007 hänen ottamisestaan California Hall of Fameen 5. joulukuuta.

Mondavi loi vuonna 1968 sen ajan Amerikassa varsin tuntemattoman Sauvignon Blanc'n paikallisen Fumé blanc -version.[2][1] Kyseinen viini oli välitön menestys. Sen tekijän omaelämäkerta Harvests of Joy ilmestyi vuonna 1998, ja hänen elämästään on tehty dokumenttielokuva. Hänen viinitilansa eteen tehdystä työstä nousi julkisuuden henkilöksi myös hänen puolisonsa Margrit Mondavi.
