Robert Campin

Méroden alttaritaulu, Robert Campin, n. 1425.

Robert Campin (1375 Valenciennes – 26. huhtikuuta 1444 Tournai[1]) oli varhainen, merkittävä flaamilainen taidemaalari 1400-luvun alkupuolella. Hänen uskotaan olleen "Flémallen mestarina" tunnettu taiteilija, mutta varmuudella Campinin töitä ei ole dokumentoitu. Campin oli toisen flaamilaisen mestarin Jan van Eyckin aikalainen, ja hänellä oli suuri merkitys siitrymäkaudella gotiikasta renessanssiin. Campinilla oli ennennäkemättömän konkreettinen näkemys kolmiulotteisesta kuvauksesta, ja joissain hänen töissään 1420- ja 30-luvuilta yhdistyvät monumentaalinen arkaismi ja nykyaikainen runous.[2] Campinin taide pohjautui käsikirjoitusten kuvituksiin.[1]

Campin tunnettiin jo vuonna 1406 maalarimestarina Tournaissa. Hänen oppilaikseen vuonna 1427 on mainittu Rogier van der Weyden (nimellä Rogelet de la Pasture) ja Jacques Daret. Campinin ja Flémallen mestarin yhteys on päätelty juuri Campinin oppilaiden ja Flémallen mestarin tyylillisistä yhtäläisyyksistä.[1]
