Patrice Chéreau

Patrice Chéreau (2. marraskuuta 1944 – 7. lokakuuta 2013 Pariisi[1]) oli ranskalainen elokuvan, teatterin ja oopperan parissa uraa luonut ohjaaja. Taidemaalariperheen kuopuksena pientä Patricea vietiin jo varhain näyttelyihin. Hän tutustui teatterin tekemiseen jo kouluaikanaan, mutta ennen lopullista alalle siirtymistään hän opiskeli klassista kirjallisuutta ja saksaa.[2]

Elokuvaa Chéreau alkoi ahkerasti seurata jo koulupoikana Ranskan elokuva-arkistossa (La Cinémathèque française). Orson Welles ja saksalainen ekspressionismi olivat hänen ensimmäiset suuret vaikuttajansa. Chéreau myös näytteli elokuvissa, kuten Andrzej Wajdan elokuvassa Danton, jossa hän esitti Camille Desmoulinsia.[2]
