Otto von Kotzebue

Otto von Kotzebue (ven. О́тто Евста́фьевич Коцебу́, Otto Jevstafjevitš Kotsebu; 30. joulukuuta 1787 Rääveli, Vironmaan kuvernementti – 15. helmikuuta 1846 Rääveli, Vironmaan kuvernementti) oli venäläinen laivastoupseeri ja tutkimusmatkailija. Hän purjehti maapallon ympäri kolmesti ja kartoitti matkoillaan suuren osa Alaskan rannikkoa. Hän löysi muun muassa Kotzebue Soundin ja useita Tyynenmeren saaria.

Von Kotzebue on baltiansaksalainen aatelissuku. Otto von Kotzebuen isä oli kirjailija August von Kotzebue[1]. Von Kotzebuen ensimmäinen maailmanympäripurjehdus tapahtui 1803–1806 Adam Johann von Krusensternin retkikunnassa. Von Kotzebue varusti oman retkikuntansa vuonna 1815 ja purjehti Kap Hornin kautta Pääsiäissaarille. Sieltä hän jatkoi Polynesian kautta Kamtšatkaan ja Alaskan rannikkolle. Von Kotzebuen retkikunta palasi Pietariin 1818. Hän kokosi vuonna 1823 toisen retkikunnan, joka noudatteli aiemman reittiä. Tällä kertaa hän tutki myös eteläistä Tyyntämerta. Retkikunta palasi Venäjälle 1826.[2]

Von Kotzebue kuoli kotonaan Räävelissä (Tallinnassa) vuonna 1846. Hänet on haudattu Kosen pitäjän hautausmaalle.[3]
