Ohjelmistoteollisuus

Ohjelmistoteollisuus käsittää ohjelmistojen tuotannon ja niihin liittyvät palvelut.

Se sisältää ohjelmistojen suunnittelun ja valmistuksen sekä palvelutoiminnan (tukipalvelut, koulutus, Software as a Service) kaupallisena toimintana. Videopeliteollisuus voidaan katsoa osaksi ohjelmistoteollisuutta.

Ohjelmistoteollisuus on Suomen nopeimmin kasvava vientiala.[1][2] Vuonna 2001 vajaa puolet ohjelmistoteollisuuden liikevaihdosta syntyi viennistä ja ala työllisti noin 10 000 henkilöä.[3] Vuonna 2006 informaatioteknologian teollisuus (IT-teollisuus) työllisti noin 46 000 henkilöä, josta ohjelmistoteollisuuden osuus oli 33 000 henkilöä.[4]

Tekesin vuonna 2012 julkistaman tiedon mukaan ohjelmistoalan yhteenlaskettu liikevaihto Suomessa oli noin 5,4 miljardia euroa.[5] Merkittävin alatoimiala on ohjelmistojen suunnittelu ja valmistus.[5]

Gartnerin mukaan vuonna 2013 alan liikevaihto maailmanlaajuisesti oli noin 407,3 miljardia dollaria kun se vuonna 2012 oli 388,5 miljardia dollaria.[6]
