Laivanvarustajankatu heinäkuussa 2019.

Laivanvarustajankatu (ruots. Skeppsredaregatan) on noin 250 metriä pitkä[1] itä-länsisuuntainen katu Helsingin Ullanlinnassa. Se alkaa itäpäässään Neitsytpolulta ja päättyy länsipäässään Kapteeninkadulle. Laivanvarustajankadun ajorata on koko pituudeltaan kaksisuuntainen.

Suurin osa Laivanvarustajankadun julkisivuista mukailee Ullanlinnalle tyypillistä jugend-tyyliä.

Historia

Laivanvarustajankatu liittyy Ullanlinnan kaupunginosan merenkulkuaiheisiin ryhmänimiin, ja nimen alkuperäinen, vuonna 1842 käyttöön otettu ruotsinkielinen kirjoitusasu oli Skeppsredare Gatan. Vuoden 1866 kartassa nimen suomennoksena oli Laivanisännänkatu. Kadunnimestä Skeppsredaregatan tuli virallinen vuonna 1875 asemakaavan vahvistamisen myötä. Vuonna 1896 kadulle ehdotettiin nimeä Batterigatan, koska se sijaitsi lähellä venäläisen sotaväen ruutihuonealuetta, mutta nimi jäi entiselleen. Kadun viralliseksi suomenkieliseksi nimeksi tuli vuonna 1909 Laivanvarustajakatu ja vuonna 1928 otettiin käyttöön nykyinen kirjoitusasu.[2]

Kotijoukkojen esikunnan rovastintoimisto perustettiin Kotijoukkojen esikunnan perustamisen myötä. Rovastintoimisto sijaitsi joulukuuhun 1939 asti Laivanvarustajankatu 6:ssa, josta se muutti Hämeenlinnaan ja sieltä takaisin Helsinkiin maaliskuussa 1940.[3]
