Irene Cara, syntymänimeltään Irene Escalera, (18. maaliskuuta 1959 Bronx, New York – 25. marraskuuta 2022 Florida) oli yhdysvaltalainen laulaja, sanoittaja ja näyttelijä. Hän voitti Oscar-, Grammy- ja Golden Globe -palkinnot.[1]

Cara kasvoi latinalaisamerikkalaisessa perheessä New Yorkissa, ja esiintyi Broadwaylla ensimmäisen kerran kahdeksanvuotiaana musikaalissa Maggie Flynn. Kuusitoistavuotiaana hän oli jo esiintynyt myös elokuvissa ja televisiossa. Hän nousi kuuluisuuteen kappaleella ”Fame”, jonka hän esitti samannimisessä musikaalielokuvassa vuonna 1980. Hän hyödynsi elokuvan tuomaa julkisuutta albumilla Anyone Can See vuonna 1982.[2]

Cara voitti Oscarin vuonna 1984 parhaan laulun kategoriassa kappaleella ”Flashdance... What a Feeling” elokuvasta Flashdance.[3]

Cara kuoli 63-vuotiaana kotonaan Floridassa 25. marraskuuta 2022.[4]
