Intioiden neuvosto

Intioiden neuvosto (esp. Consejo de Indias) oli Espanjan siirtomaissa ylintä valtaa käyttävä kuninkaan neuvosto. Se laati asetuksia ja määräyksiä, jotka kuningas vahvisti allekirjoituksellaan. Ferdinand Katolilainen perusti Intioiden neuvoston vuonna 1511 ja Kaarle I uudisti sen toiminnan vuonna 1523.

Intioiden neuvoston päätösten toimeenpanosta vastasi Sevillan Casa de Contratación. Recopilaciónin eli "Intioiden kootut lait" määrittelee Kaarle I:n vuonna 1542 antamassa asetuksessa Casa de Indiasin tarkoituksen ja sen tärkeimmät virkamiehet. Recopilación, joka sisältää 2000 sivua, käyttää 93 sivua Intioiden neuvoston ja sen virkamiesten toiminnan määrittelyyn. Ensimmäisestä pykälästä käy selville, että Intioiden neuvoston tuli aina olla kuninkaan lähettyvillä, eli siellä missä kuningas laajassa valtakunnassaan kulloinkin sattui olemaan. Vasta kun Madridista oli tullut Espanjan pääkaupunki 1560-luvulla, neuvosto sai vakituisen toimipaikkansa. Intioiden neuvosto ja varsinkin Sevillan Casa de Contratación muodostivat aikanaan maailmassa ennen kokemattoman voiman, jota täydensi kaikkien aikojen laajimmalle levinnyt lakikokoelma Siete Partidas. Recopilación julkaistiin vasta 1681.
