Fredrik II (Saksi)

Fredrik II Lempeämielinen (saks. Friedrich Der Sanftmütige; 22. elokuuta 1411 tai 1412 Leipzig – 7. syyskuuta 1464 Leipzig)[1][2] oli Saksin vaaliruhtinas vuosina 1428–1464.

Fredrik II oli vaaliruhtinas Fredrik I Sotaisan vanhin poika. Isänsä kuoltua vuonna 1428 hän peri vaaliruhtinaan arvon yksin, mutta muut hallitusasiat jaettiin hänen ja hänen kolmen veljensä kesken.[3] Fredrik II jatkoi aluksi isänsä sotaa hussilaisia vastaan, mutta vuoden 1431 tappiollisen Tausin taistelun jälkeen hän solmi seuraavana vuonna erillisrauhan. Hän tosin osallistui vielä yhteen taisteluun hussilaisia vastaan vuonna 1438. Fredrik sai vuonna 1439 liitettyä Meissenin linnakreivikunnan osaksi Saksia. Yhden veljensä kuoltua ja toisen siirryttyä piispaksi Fredrik II ajautui valtataisteluun jäljelle jääneen veljensä, Thüringenin rajakreivi Vilhelm III:n kanssa. He kiistelivät vuonna 1440 yhdessä perimästään Thüringenin maakreivikunnasta ja heidän välilleen puhkesi vuonna 1446 viisi vuotta kestänyt Saksin veljessota.[3][1][2] Fredrik II perusti Saksiin säännöllisesti kokoontuvat maapäivät.[1]

Fredrik II:n puoliso oli Itävallan herttua Ernstin tytär Margareeta. Heidän poikiaan olivat vaaliruhtinas Ernst ja herttua Albrekt, joiden kesken valtakunta jaettiin Fredrik II:n kuoltua.[2] Molemmat pojat joutuivat vuonna 1455 niin sanotun ”Saksin prinssiryöstön” (Prinzenraub) uhreiksi, mutta heidät saatiin pian vapautettua sieppaajana toimineen ritarin jäätyä kiinni.[3][2]
