Pro Finlandia (1979)

Eva Ester Brummer (o.s. Martio; 13. maaliskuuta 1901 Tampere – 28. kesäkuuta 2007 Espoo) oli suomalainen tekstiilitaiteilija, joka kehitti erityisesti suomalaista ryijyä.[1]

Brummer opiskeli Taideteollisuuskeskuskoulussa vuosina 1922–1923 mallipiirustusosastolla ja 1924–1926 sen opettajaosastolla, ja hän valmistui sieltä kuvaamataidonopettajaksi 1926. Hän toimi piirustuksenopettajana Lauttasaaren yhteiskoulussa 40 vuotta ja jäi eläkkeelle vuonna 1968. Hän asui Espoon Tapiolassa Tykkitiellä vuodesta 1960 lähtien.

”Alkusysäys ryijyjen suunnitteluun lähtee yleensä luonnosta, usein myös voimakkaasta tunne-elämyksestä. En kuitenkaan ajattele kokemaani, alitajunta työskentelee... Alkaessani luonnoksen vesiväreillä en koskaan tiedä, mitä työstä syntyy, en ole edes ajatellut väriä.”[2]

Brummer on suomalaisen ryijyn uudistaja. Hän ryhtyi 1930-luvulla yhteistyössä kutojan kanssa kehittämään menetelmiä. Hän suunnitteli ryijymalleja Suomen Käsityön Ystäville lähes 50 vuotta. Hänen kehittämäänsä langalla maalaamista ihailtiin erityisesti 1940- ja 1950-luvulla, mutta sen jälkeen on taideryijyjen ulkonäkö muuttunut.[3]

Eva Brummerin puoliso oli vuodesta 1926 Arttu Brummer.
