Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (8. heinäkuuta 1926 – 24. elokuuta 2004) oli sveitsiläissyntyinen psykiatri. Hän julkaisi kirjan Raportti kuolemisesta (1969), jossa hän esitteli kuoleman kohtaamisen tuottaman suruprosessin viisi vaihetta: kieltämisen, vihan, neuvottelun, masennuksen ja hyväksymisen. Hän kirjoitti elämänsä aikana 24 kirjaa, jotka on käännetty 44 kielelle. Häntä pidettiin myös yhtenä saattohoito- ja palliatiivisen hoitoliikkeen perustajista.[1]

Elämä

Kübler-Ross valmistui Zürichin yliopistosta ennen muuttoaan Yhdysvaltoihin 1950-luvun lopulla. Hän tutki kuolemanrajakokemuksia ja kirjoitti niiden lisäksi kuolemanjälkeisestä elämästä. Hän oli intohimoinen puolestapuhuja parantumattomasti sairaiden lasten ja heidän perheidensä tukemisessa. 1990-luvun alussa hän yritti perustaa lastensairaalan maaseututilalleen Virginianiin hoitamaan AIDSia sairastavia hylättyjä vauvoja. Tämä projekti johti siihen, että hänen talonsa tuhopoltettiin vuonna 1995. Sen jälkeen hän muutti Arizonaan, missä hän vietti viimeiset yhdeksän vuotta elämästään lähelle poikaansa.. Kübler-Ross oli 20 eri yliopiston kunniatohtori ja hän oli jäsenenä amerikkalaisessa National Women’s Hall of Fame:ssa.
