Boss of the Plains

Hattu 1800-luvulta

Boss of the Plains (BP) on brittiläisperäinen päähine. Hattu oli alun perin brittiläisen ratsuväkiupseerin hattu, jollaista käytettiin 1800-luvun loppupuolella.

Hattu on korkeakupuinen ja leveälierinen huopahattu, jonka kuvussa on neljä painallusta. Lieri on noin 20 senttimetriä tasaleveä. Hattuun kuuluu leukanauha.[1]

Robert Baden-Powell

Hatun kutsumanimi BP on aiheuttanut sekaannusta Partioliikkeen perustajasta Robert Baden-Powellin lempinimen B-P kanssa. Sekaannusta on lisännyt se, että Baden-Powell toi tämän tuntemansa sotilaspäähineen partioliikkeen käyttöön. Tunnetuin ja käytetyin kuva hänestä on muotokuva juuri tällainen hattu päässään. Hattu korvautui kuitenkin eri puolilla vähitellen kansallisilla päähineillä kuten venelakeilla ja bareteilla.lähde?

Yhdysvalloissa tätä hattua kutsutaan metsänvartijanhatuksi (engl. Ranger’s hat) ja sitä käytetään runsaasti muun muassa poliisin ja metsänvartijoiden virkapuvuissa, joskin se on hiljalleen syrjäytymässä lippalakin tieltä.lähde?

BP-hatusta on kehitetty myös muut Stetsonin hatut, joita näkee muun muassa villin lännen elokuvissa.lähde?
