PC City

PC City fue una cadena de tiendas de origen británico que llegó a tener 34 centros y más de 1.600 empleados en España hasta abandonar el mercado español, que además operaba en Portugal, Italia y Suecia. Pertenecía al grupo británico Dixons, con presencia en varios países de Europa bajo el nombre de PC World.

Originalmente creada con el nombre Ei System, se renombró como PC City un año y medio después de ser adquirida por Dixons.[1]​

El 14 de abril de 2011 anunció su inmediata salida de España y puso su stock a precios rebajados.

Sistema de negocio

PC City se caracterizaba por no funcionar como franquicia, ya que todas las tiendas dependían de una central.[2]​

Dentro de PC City existía una sección especial llamada PC City Empresas, orientada a PYMEs.

La cadena contaba además con dos páginas web de venta en línea (una, como tienda normal y otra especializada en empresas).

Curiosidades

Inicialmente, la cadena se iba a llamar en España PC World (al igual que en la mayoría de los países). Sin embargo, el nombre ya estaba siendo usado por una revista. Por este motivo, se eligió el nombre actual.

Cierre por pérdidas

El 15 de abril de 2011 El País publicó una noticia en la que escribía que «La cadena PC City abandona el mercado español», todo ello después de «La caída progresiva del consumo y las pérdidas acumuladas» que llegaban a un total «de 67 millones de euros» en los dos últimos ejercicios.[3]​ Hasta ese momento la cadena poseía un total de 33 tiendas en España, la última en La Coruña que «duró media hora abierta».[4]​
