Palavecino[3]​ es uno de los 9 municipios pertenecientes al Estado Lara. Su capital es Cabudare. Posee 3 parroquias: una de nombre homónimo, José Gregorio Bastidas y Agua Viva. Se ubica al este del Estado, entre los 10°5′27″ y 9°54′8″ de latitud norte y 69°37′4″ y 69°16′41″ de longitud oeste. Forma parte del Área Metropolitana de Barquisimeto.

Historia

Cristóbal Palavecino nace en Cabudare y muere heroicamente en el asalto al pueblo de Casanare, a principios de febrero de 1817. Militar y miembro destacado del procerato larense con participación en la gran gesta libertaria. Desatacado guerrillero, dotado de arrojo temerario. Con un ejército formado en los Rastrojos, se unió al Libertador el 10 de noviembre de 1813, integrando el cuerpo de caballería con el cual entró primero a Barquisimeto, plaza ocupada por Cedeño, quien, ante la avanzada republicana, les hace frente y logra que nuestros parciales retrocedan. El ejército era superior y acosa inteligentemente al Libertador. Palavecino, conocedor de nuestros parajes naturales facilita la huida de Bolívar por la cuesta del Río Turbio, salvándole la vida.

  • Composición heráldica: en la parte superior resalta una estrella que significa la eterna emancipación venezolana, lograda en los campos de batalla. En la parte superior aparece una franja ondulante con el nombre de Palavecino.
  • Parte superior: se observa el árbol emblemático de los palavecinences "La Ceiba" (o Jabillo), junto al Puente "San Nicolas", construido en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.
  • Flanco izquierdo: identifica el Trapiche, unidad de producción dedicada a la explotación y procesamiento de la caña de azúcar, como principal rubro económico local.
  • Flanco derecho: silueta del negro (Loango) Miguel, que en 1553 lideró en la Real Mina de Buría un alzamiento contra la operación española.
  • Parte inferior: se observa la montaña de Terepaima, sitio donde habitaron los Achaguas, primeros pobladores de esta comarca; el Caudal de agua se refiere a los numerosos nacientes de corrientes naturales.
  • A los lados: Armas: reiteran el patriotismo de los hijos palavecinenses; hoja de Acanto o Espino: expresa la creatividad artística de los hombres de Palavecino y; Cuerno de la abundancia: expresa abundancia económica fundamentalmente agrícola que identificó nuestro Municipio.

Bandera

Creada por el Sgto. Tec. Oswaldo E. Lozano S., fue presentado antes los Palavecinenses el 27 de enero de 2004. La Franja Verde, a la izquierda cercana al asta, representa la esperanza del pueblo Palavecinense, que se alcalza con el Kabudari, nombre anterior de Cabudare, que significa árbol grande. Representa el verdor del Quisuiri, hoy Parque nacional Terepaima, y la fertilidad del Valle del Turbio. Simboliza la histórica Ceiba que le dio cobijo a Bolívar y sus tropas, el 10 de noviembre de 1813. La Franja Azul, menos ancha que la verde, simboliza los numerosos manantiales y nacientes de agua que tienen su origen en el Parque nacional Terepaima y cruzan el territorio del Municipio Palavecino. El Azul representa los altos ideales, la justicia y la perseverancia.

La Franja Morada, de mayor dimensión que las anteriores lleva en el centro el escudo de armas del Municipio, representa la autoridad, la dignidad y la majestad de la jerarquía municipal. El Pendón morado de Castilla significa el primer ceremonial municipal en Suelo Venezolano y la herencia española del Cabildo como poder local.

Himno

La Letra le pertenece al profesor, Juan José López y fue entonado ante los palavecinenses el 27 de enero de 2004. El Himno esta Estructurado en cuatro estrofas y un verso que resaltan los valores del Municipio Palavecino y contribuye a su identidad. La Música le pertenece al Profesor Ricardo Reyes. El Arreglo coral al Profesor Gregory Ortiz y deberá ser interpretado en los actos protocolares correspondientes.

Cultura

El Tamunangue

Como esta expresión es netamente de Lara, principalmente de El Tocuyo, Curarigua y demás poblaciones circunvecinas de El Tocuyo, tienen la devoción de celebrar las festividades de San Antonio de Padua (13 de junio) aunque en la actualidad, por su importancia, hay conjuntos organizados que constantemente amenizan actos con El Tamunangue dentro y fuera de Venezuela, obteniendo brillantes éxitos. Lo tradicional, es que el “Día de San Antonio” se incorporan los cantores con sus instrumentos (cuatro, cincos, maracas, tambores y palos). Y antes del día festivo ya esta todo preparado para darle comienzo al canto de “Los Negros”. Agrupándose millares de personas y devotos de San Antonio, muchos con el objetivo de pagar promesas. Siempre escogen el son de LA BELLA por ser de más facilidad para bailarla. Para este día se organiza una solemne Misa y luego la Procesión por las principales calles al son de “La Batalla” Durante todo el día los cantores, bailadores y el público se trasladan a los hogares que han ofrecido promesas a San Antonio para que les bailen y canten.Antes del último son, se canta “El Galerón”. Para esta danza tienen que ser los bailarines muy resistentes y ágiles para lograr las difíciles figuras de este baile. En el Estado Lara se acostumbra también celebrar en cualquier fecha y por promesa el velorio de San Antonio (cantaduría) y al amanecer del día siguiente cantan y bailan “El Tamunangue” que se abre y se cierra con la salve. No ha de faltar la imagen de San Antonio; incienso, velas, arcos de palma, flores entre otros.
