Idioma escocés
En el ámbito idiomático, el término escocés puede referirse a cualquiera de los siguientes idiomas:
- El idioma escocés (Scots o Lallans), una lengua germánica occidental del grupo anglo-frisio, descendiente del inglés medio septentrional hablado en Northumbria, y hablado actualmente en algunas zonas de Escocia, Irlanda del Norte y en el condado de Donegal de la República de Irlanda.
- El gaélico escocés (Gàidhlig), una lengua celta hablada por los antiguos escotos y que pervive en la actualidad en la región noroeste de Escocia (Highlands e islas Hébridas principalmente).
- El inglés escocés o inglés de Escocia, término usado para agrupar a las variedades lingüísticas del idioma inglés habladas actualmente en Escocia.
