Son Chae-young (hangul: 손채영; Seúl, 23 de abril de 1999), más conocida como Chaeyoung, es una cantante, rapera, modelo, y bailarina surcoreana,[1]​ que debutó en la escena musical en 2015[2]​ con el grupo femenino Twice después de audicionar en el programa de supervivencia 'SixTeen'.

Biografía

Chaeyoung fue trainee (aprendiz) durante 3 años (desde 2012 hasta 2015) hasta finalmente debutar como la penúltima u octava miembro, en orden de edad, del grupo sur-coreano Twice mediante al programa de supervivencia SIXTEEN. Es una gran amante de las fresas y los dibujos, dos ámbitos bastantes característicos en ella. Debido a esto, Chaeyoung es apodada “Strawberry Princess” por algunos aficionados. Su animal característico en el grupo es el tigre bebé y su color representativo el rojo. Chaeyoung mencionó en varias entrevistas ser admiradora del cantante canadiense Justin Bieber, del que ha hecho un cover de su canción “Off my face” en el canal oficial de Twice. Para liberar el estrés, a Chaeyoung le gusta escuchar música o salir a pasear.[cita requerida]

El 5 de abril de 2024, KST, un medio de noticias coreano, informó que ella y Zion.T han estado saliendo durante los últimos seis meses.[3]​JYP Entertainment y The Black Label, agencias que los representan, no han emitido ningún comunicado sobre este asunto.[4]​

2015-Actualidad: Sixteen y Twice

El 11 de febrero de 2015, J.Y. Park anunció que la formación del nuevo grupo de chicas de la compañía se elegiría a través del reality show de Mnet, Sixteen. El show terminó el 5 de mayo, cuando Chaeyoung fue anunciada como una de las nueve ganadoras del show, quedando en sexta posición.[5]​[6]​

Twice está compuesto por 9 chicas: las coreanas Nayeon, Chaeyoung, Jihyo, Jeongyeon y Dahyun, las japonesas Momo Hirai, Sana y Mina y la taiwanesa Tzuyu. El grupo debutó el 20 de octubre de 2015 con el lanzamiento de la obra extendida The Story Begins, junto con el sencillo "Like Ooh-Ahh.[7]​[8]​ El grupo realizó una actuación en vivo el mismo día, donde presentaron todas las canciones del EP.[9]​[10]​[11]​ El videoclip de la canción alcanzó 100 millones de vistas en YouTube en los cinco meses siguientes a su debut y se convirtió en uno de los vídeos de debut más vistos de cualquier grupo K-pop.[12]​[13]​[14]​

Controversia con camisetas

El 18 de marzo de 2023, durante la promoción de «Set Me Free», Chaeyoung apareció en el programa televisivo surcoreano Show! Music Core utilizando una camiseta con estampado de QAnon, una teoría conspirativa estadounidense de extrema derecha.[15]​[16]​ La camiseta consistía de una Q con el diseño de la bandera estadounidense y el texto «We Go All», un eslogan prominente entre los creyentes de la teoría.[17]​ Tres días después, el 21 de marzo, la cantante publicó una foto en Instagram donde se le podía ver usando una camiseta con simbología nazi.[18]​ La camiseta tenía específicamente una imagen de Sid Vicious, bajista de Sex Pistols, utilizando una esvástica, idéntica a la usada en la Alemania nazi.[19]​ Chaeyoung finalmente eliminó la publicación y pidió disculpas.[20]​[21]​
