El 51.º distrito congresional es un distrito congresional que elige a un Representante para la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos por el estado de California. Según la Oficina del Censo, en 2011 el distrito tenía una población de 745 464 habitantes. Actualmente el distrito está representado por el Demócrata Juan Vargas.^[1]

Geografía

El 51.º distrito congresional se encuentra ubicado en las coordenadas 32°59′46″N 115°31′32″O / 32.9962393, -115.5254278.

Demografía

Según la Oficina del Censo de los Estados Unidos,^[2] en 2011 había 745 464 personas residiendo en el 51.º distrito congresional. De los 745 464 habitantes, el distrito estaba compuesto por 475 739 (63.8%) blancos; de esos, 451 973 (60.6%) eran blancos no latinos o hispanos. Además 58 407 (7.8%) eran afroamericanos o negros, 6 226 (0.8%) eran nativos de Alaska o amerindios, 94 416 (12.7%) eran asiáticos, 4 989 (0.7%) eran nativos de Hawái o isleños del Pacífico, 100 290 (13.5%) eran de otras razas y 29 163 (3.9%) pertenecían a dos o más razas. Del total de la población 460 259 (61.7%) eran hispanos o latinos de cualquier raza; 436 719 (58.6%) eran de ascendencia mexicana, 4 907 (0.7%) puertorriqueña y 1 045 (0.1%) cubana. Además del inglés, 3 935 (53.5%) personas mayor a cinco años de edad hablaban español perfectamente.^[3]

El número total de hogares en el distrito era de 214 269 y el 79.2% eran familias en la cual el 41.1 tenían menores de 18 años de edad viviendo con ellos. De todas las familias viviendo en el distrito, solamente el 53.5% eran matrimonios. Del total de hogares en el distrito, el 4.3 eran parejas que no estaban casadas, mientras que el 0.5% eran parejas del mismo sexo. El promedio de personas por hogar era de 3.38. ^[2]

En 2011 los ingresos medios por hogar en el distrito congresional eran de US$49 910, y los ingresos medios por familia eran de US$67 104. Los hogares que no formaban una familia tenían unos ingresos de US$46 239. El salario promedio de tiempo completo para los hombres era de US$41 909 frente a los US$35 764 para las mujeres. La renta per cápita para el distrito era de US$19 021. Alrededor del 14.9% de la población estaban por debajo del umbral de pobreza.^[2]
