Wikipedia:WikiService
This is a failed proposal. Consensus for its implementation was not established within a reasonable period of time. If you want to revive discussion, please use the talk page or initiate a thread at the village pump. |
This proposal says that instead of a block, vandals will be banned indefinitely unless they clean up vandalism.
Overview
A block is like a prison sentence. Many times it does little to prevent a criminal from striking again. A vandal with a 24hr block will most likely come back after 24 hours. So instead of blocks, I propose that vandals must revert vandalism in order to come back to Wikipedia. How many former vandals who want to help Wikipedia ( this user possibly ) have been shunned by indefinite bans? Well now, if they want to help, then can do community service.
How it Works
When a vandal gets all the warnings, instead of a block, a sysop will post on the user page that that user is banned pending that user doing community service. The vandal will have to go to the community service area and sign in. They'll be assigned a number of reverts to do (possibly their TOTAL vandalism * 1.5) and get software (similar to WP:VPRF ) to do it. Obviously, they'll be monitored. But one person helping can monitor several vandals at once, so you get 3 RC patrollers being watched by one. Either we'll have more RC patrol, or less vandalism.
