Hi. Thanks for your recent edits to Atreyu (band), as they fixed quite a few things. However, one thing I did notice was that you removed the forward slash from a couple of <br /> tags. <br /> tags should be written in the format I've just used, as that is complannt with XHTML, which states that all tags need to be closed. Hi Sean,

I have been corresponding with Moondyne, and he is reinstating the "number 1 singles" and "number 1 albums" versions of the charts I did as the templates to redirect to, as they were the most up-to date, there was more info in there. I am new to wikipedia, thus the mess created, with the two versions.

I hope you like the format I did with the tables and the graphics. I have the 2 Kent Music Report books that go up to 1992. I think the ARIA charts website have the info for the 1990s albums, which is why I didnt fill those in.

Hi Sean

thanks for your message. I created a version called "number-one singles" to start off with for the 70s and then thought that "number 1 singles" was probably a better name. So there were 2 versions from the start. I was not sure if I also made other versions of the other work I did (1960s singles, 1960s albums, 1970s albums and 1980s albums) also named "number-one". As I was working on the "number 1" versions in all cases as the most up to date and can't remember if I kept on updating any "number-one" verions as I went along, this is why I panicked. I may have included or altered links along the way, which never made it onto the old versions.

I have discussed with Moondyne making a version of the List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s as a table format (as with 1960s & 1970s versions I made) - keeping the editorial commentary already there on the page, which I'll start work on tonight. I did not know however if the original creator of the page would be too happy about having his/her page modified, and if it should be a seperete page altogether? Do you know who ceated this page (was it you or Moondyne?), can they be contacted to ask them? I'll forward this to Moondyne as well. cheers

Hi Moondyne / Sean

I see there's been some discussion on the dates for Kent music report & Go-Set dates.

I am working togehter with david Kent who is supplying me with charts for a radio show I do: http://au.geocities.com/itstimecharts/index.html

He began publishing his charts in 1974, that is true. Much later, he began to work retrospectively from 1974 back to the 1940s with archival charts from various Australian states to create retrospective Kent Music Report National Charts. These are the ones used for his book AUSTRALIAN CHART BOOK: http://www.austchartbook.com.au/ This is the source of all the number one info that I have posted. I am happy to email you jpgs of the Number one info scanned from David Kent's chart books if you give me an email address, if you'd like to sort out confusion re dates.

I have also studied Go-Set for a long time. I made a doco for ABC Radio National in 2000 on the history of Go-Set and interviewed Philip Frazer (he is now in NYC) down the line for the doco. I got permission from Ed Nimmervoll, the chart compiler to put the Go-Set charts (1966-74) online here: http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/ It took a long time to make that website. Go Set began publication in Feb 1966. there was no national chart when it began. the Go-Set Australian national chart began in OCTOBER 1966. Go-Set ceased publication on Aug 24 1974. That was the last chart published. NLA only holds copies from 1967-Aug 3 1974 in hard copy. Microfilm copies (origianlly from State Libray of Victoria) go from Feb 66-Aug 24 74. You'll see a pic of this final edition's cover here: http://www.poparchives.com.au/gosetcharts/1974/19740824.html

As long as the info is all intact, I guess it doesn;t matter what the chart pages are called, as long as they are easily findable as a search. I guess i just thought that "number 1 singles" might be something more readily put into a google search than "number-one singles" (with a hyphen, if that is relevant in google searches) . I shall trust your judgement on this, as a "WikiNewb"!

Hi Sean

I have spent several hours constructing a draft illustrated version of the 1980s number 1 singles in Australia in tabular format here User:Rusty201. It also attempts to take into consideration the ARIA Charts / Kent Music Report (Australian Music Report) conflict of the late 1980s, and I explain the dates conflict that you referred to in a message to Moondyne. I have also (except for a few small things in the original data I am yet to add) kept the editorial content of the original page List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s , the original page of which has not been deleted. I have also added Australian Music Report data for 1988/89, which was not in the original page.

I have put it on my profile as a draft, so that various people can look at it first as a proposal for inclusion on the List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s page. i anticipate there would be a great hue and cry if I were to, unannounced, replace what is now there with what I have created. Can there be a link to my user profile page put on List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1980s so there can be 'consultation with the public' as to its possible replacement of what is there now? What is the wikipedia protocol for this? Do I go back through the page history and contact every person who has worked on this page? regards Rusty201 03:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-05-30T03:25:00.000Z","author":"Rusty201","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rusty201-2007-05-30T03:25:00.000Z-Draft_version_for_Australian_number_1_singles_of_1980s","replies":[]}}-->

Thanks for your message. I wrote a response to ross on my talk page, most of my argumants are there for how it has been formatted. I'd really rather leave it in the format it is at the moment and not spend hours amending it again, to suit another's taste. I do like the way it looks. It gives a visual impression of the passage of time. I saw that someone had removed the links on the 1960s albums page. I guess it's OK when you have great swathes of the same thing, but I think the 60s albums is the only place you can get away with that. I'll replace the page shortly and see if ross or Moondyne repsonds to me in the mean time. There are still some links that need fixing in there.

OK, i've put it up. Thanks for the encouragement from everyone

There is a killjoy Wikipedia entity in the USA by th eusername of "Kotepho" who has removed all the images I spent sleepless hours uploading to add to these pages and making sure each one had the appropriate "Fair usage" rational (as Moondyne told me)> If you look at his "contributions" page, all he has been doing is deleting images from music / cinema pages. I guess he is the Wikipedia Gestapo. This really pisses me off and has also put me off contributing much more to Wikipedia. I put a lot of work into it to be zapped in a second, without any warning.

I've undone his work but expect he will do the same again, along with a nasty message waiting for me tomorrow! Do you have any sway with these online police?

Hi Sean

As You might have seen, I've added the 1940s & 50s in the last 24 hours (I was awake all last night doing it)

List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1950s

List_of_number-one_singles_in_Australia_during_the_1940s

I haven't put any images on them, and they do look rather sparse, but hey, wasn't the 50s supposed to be rather rather like how John Howard's vision for Australia should be?

The Kent books: There is a sample page on the website: http://www.austchartbook.com.au/

click on 'sample'

The book contains artists names and their hits and albums and what position they got to. You can also look up titles of songs in another section, if you don't know the artist's name. At the back of the book, there is a section which lists the number one singles and albums that I used in the pages. This is consistent throughout the 3 volumes. There is also a section which lists the top charting singles and albums for each year.

I think the OzNet website relies on Sydney's 2UE charts before 1970, not the David Kent info, where as 1970 onwards, it's all from the Kent info.

I also have 2 books of the UK New Musical Express charts, listed week by week up to 1992. One albums book & one singles. US Billboards charts i don't have, but there is something on the net somewhere that more or less does this.

I make the distinction between "top charting" and "top selling": eg: Abba'a Fernando sold about 240,000 copies as a vinyl single in AUS and was the #1 song of 1976, Two Man band's "Up There Cazaly" sold about the same number of copies (presumably in a very short space of time) and was #1 for 1 week in late 1979, and was the #13 charting single for the year of 1979, despite matching Fernando's efforts. Getting sales figures for Australia are difficult, it seems, however, there is some info available on Gold & Platinum record awards. I'm thinking of putting up another page with Gold records and platinum records in Australia, although I don't have much info (only a definitive list 1979-82) and bits and pieces you read from various sources. I don't know if ARIA holds this info, but the various record distributors used to hold them. Some of these record companies have since gone under: eg. Festival Records, Astor, Polygram, and were bought out by the big multinationals. What do you suggest I call such a page?

hi Sean

I was leaving in the red links to encourage people to 'fill in the blanks' so to speak, as I have been doing myself. If there are no red links, then there is less incentive to be creative! Someone might know heaps on "The Mojo Singers" (I don't) , or Bob Hudson and "The Newcastle Song" and decide to fill it in.

  1. Parentheses… sorry about that, I meant quotation marks. The only reason they were changed is because I copied and passed from the archived version following my edits. I do not care what they look like.
  2. There is no need to capitalize the word “live” after a song. The only thing capitalized is the song’ name. I don’t see ant reason as to why the word “live” would be capitalized.
  3. The format section on single infoboxes refers to the media in which it was produced. It would be a CD. CD single refers to the single itself. You would say that “Welcome to the Black Parade” is a single released as a CD, not a single released as a CD single. – Zntrip 21:59, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-06-04T21:59:00.000Z","author":"Zntrip","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Zntrip-2007-06-04T21:59:00.000Z-MCR_singles","replies":[]}}-->

I just reverted the entire edit beacuse of what you did at the bottom of the page. The word "Website" is always capitalized and the page should be catagorized under "D" in Category:My Chemical Romance. I'll partcially revert the edit this time instead of copying it from the archive version. – Zntrip 21:40, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-09-30T21:40:00.000Z","author":"Zntrip","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Zntrip-2007-09-30T21:40:00.000Z-Re:_Quotes","replies":[]}}-->

Hey, as you are a member of the Michael Jackson wikiproject I have some very important news for you. I will be nominating the Michael Jackson article for FA shortly and the Thriller album article is currently on the nomination list for GA. We need your help with both articles....

The Michael Jackson artice is currently on a peer review (which you can see on the articles talk page). It also really needs its references formatted correctly.

The Thriller album is going to be reviewed in the next couple of DAYS its sources need formatting.

These are the most important articles on michael jackson here at wiki, 2008 has been an excellent year for michael jackson, lets make it a good year for him here at wikipedia too. If these articles get a GA or FA statues it could make news outside of the wiki world. What a great way to celebrate the 25th year of MJ being the KING OF POP.

Please help with the sources of both these articles and in any other way you can. If you know any other people at wiki that might want to get involved let them know.Realist2 (talk) 22:31, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-04-04T22:31:00.000Z","author":"Realist2","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Realist2-2008-04-04T22:31:00.000Z-HEY","replies":[]}}-->

Re: I got the information from here. The sources I've found for them are the Australian Chart Book's (ISBN 0-646-11917-6, ISBN 0-646-45889-2) although as I'm not willing to pay AU$135 & AU$121 to import them and no libraries in my continent have them, as far as I'm aware anyway, I don't feel that I can call them a source. — Balthazar (T|C) 16:26, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-06-15T16:26:00.000Z","author":"Balthazar","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Balthazar-2008-06-15T16:26:00.000Z-Re:_Faith_No_More_discography","replies":[]}}-->

Danny Carey was the Collaboration of the Month (for a couple months) but that didn't really go anywhere. Pomte made a good point here that I didn't see until just now.
So, the current CotM is Lateralus. I hope everyone can get motivated to contribute to this article; striving for GA, maybe even FA. If you need some inspiration, go listen to the album! :D Thanks everyone. And welcome to our new members!

Hi, thanks for adding the Australian chart positions to The Smiths discography. You've used a web-forum at australian-charts.com as the source for the information. However, web-forum's fail WP:SPS and aren't reliable sources. Do you know of any other source that might be used? Is there a published chart book that might have the information? Thanks for your nice note. I've re-read my comment and realised that it was a bit pointed. Sorry. In mitigation, I've been a bit frustrated at how capricious AfD is at times. Hi. JD554 suggested me over here that you might be in possession of the "Australian Chart Book 1970 - 1992" and thus help me finding a more established source over at Talk:Sweet discography#Sourcing the Australian Chart positions. Your input would be highly appreciated. Cheers. – IbLeo (talk) 07:50, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-10-30T07:50:00.000Z","author":"IbLeo","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-IbLeo-2008-10-30T07:50:00.000Z-Maybe_you_can_help_sourcing_the_Australian_chart_positions_for_the_Sweet_discogr","replies":["c-IbLeo-2008-10-30T17:28:00.000Z-IbLeo-2008-10-30T07:50:00.000Z"]}}-->

Thanks for the hint. I put in a request on australian-charts.com's forum.
