Hi PARAKANYAA, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Hey, I've added some sources, if you want to take a new look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nya Doxa. In this case, I think it was very difficult to find anything from home without access to a Swedish newspaper archive (a paid service), but I found some long articles about the publishing house from the late 1990s and early 2000s. /Julle (talk) 08:03, 9 August 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240809080300","author":"Julle","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Julle-20240809080300-Nya_Doxa","replies":["c-PARAKANYAA-20240809144900-Julle-20240809080300"]}}-->

Good day! I've just received the message that you added a notability tag to three of my articles. I fully understand it for "Transition Dreams" and "Induction", but really need an explanation for "Sea of Dreams". The article lists four publications, an upcoming TV adaption and two reviews from independent sources. With the latter it fulfills the first criterion listed at the necessary notatbility criteria for books. I'd also argue that the fifth criterion is fulfilled, given how famous Liu Cixin is in- and outside of China with interest in his work currently increasing following the release of 3 Body Problem by Netflix in March 2024.
I really don't understand what you think is missing to establish notability? @Samuel Adrian Antz My issue with the Sea of Dreams page is that the sources showed clear notability for the collection it was reviewing, which Sea of Dreams was a part of. The reviews are for the collection, not this story, but I am unsure if their coverage of this story specifically is long enough to count as sigcov, or if it would be inherited down from that anyway - which would be less of a concern if the amount of the sources focusing on this story specifically were longer. Are there non-primary sources about the adaptions? @PARAKANYAA Thanks for the quick answer! I can definitely go on a search for such sources. So far almost all sources I've added for (english and german) articles about short stories came from reviews about the whole collection in which they have appeared in. I've never been told that this was a problem and hence have continued to do it like that. I'm currently finishing articles for all ten short stories by Liu Cixin published in his collection The Wandering Earth and all reviews I've added so far concern the whole collection. I was about to publish the first ones (those with three reviews and one with two longer reviews), but am now doubtful. Should I continue or first search for other sources? @Samuel Adrian Antz I'm not 100% clear on how it works with short stories, in all honesty. NBOOK does not specify how they are treated, if there is clear guidance somewhere I have not found it. My rationale was something along the lines of the fact that notability is not inherited. However, I think a bigger issue here is the length of content in the reviews of the collections, from my look all the ones in that article are fairly short when it comes to content on Sea of Dreams and not the collection as a whole; if the review contains significant amounts of content on the story itself then it may be warranted. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:34, 1 September 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240901213400","author":"PARAKANYAA","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-PARAKANYAA-20240901213400-Samuel_Adrian_Antz-20240901212300","replies":[]}}-->
@Samuel Adrian Antz Also, the fifth criterion is IMO an extremely high bar that is frequently misused, it is only for people so famous that their entire body of works is the subject of significant study, like Philip K. Dick or Tolkien or something. The author may be getting there but from my look he isn't there yet; wouldn't be surprised if he does eventually though PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:02, 1 September 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240901210200","author":"PARAKANYAA","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-PARAKANYAA-20240901210200-Samuel_Adrian_Antz-20240901205500","replies":[]}}-->

@Polygnotus It's extremely annoying but there is a total of one good book (or, well, any book) in English on it, which is The Order of the Solar Temple: The Temple of Death. This book is very easy to find, but is a very scholarly look at it. The more journalistic overviews are all in French sadly. Of the chapters in The Temple of Death the best general overviews are Hall & Schuyler's chapter and Introvigne's chapter (Introvigne can be too nice to cults sometimes, but I find he tends to be very good on the OTS and doesn't do any cult apologism when talking about it). There's also the chapter by Clusel & Palmer in the 2020 book The Mystical Geography of Quebec, which mostly focuses on them in Canada but gives a great general overview of the group before that.
The overwhelming majority of coverage on it is French, which I luckily can understand decently, but other people are mostly out of luck. I have pretty much every reliable source on the OTS (which cost......so much money.......), my long term goal onwiki is to make all the related pages high quality which I am slowly accomplishing bit by bit (I recently finished the 1997 Saint-Casimir mass suicide and 1995 Vercors massacre pages, working on the 1994 one but it's going slowly). The 1997 and 2000 Bédat et al. books are the best journalistic sources but, again, in French. La Fraternité is also extremely good but also in French. Every page on it onwiki is almost entirely written by me at this point (no one else seems to have any interest, and the language barrier is not helping) PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:20, 12 September 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240912022000","author":"PARAKANYAA","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-PARAKANYAA-20240912022000-Polygnotus-20240912020600","replies":["c-PARAKANYAA-20240912022700-PARAKANYAA-20240912022000"]}}-->
@Polygnotus There's also the 1999 journal article by Mayer which is free to read here which is basically just a condensed version of his French book Les Mythes du Temple Solaire. Thank you, I have ordered The Order of the Solar Temple: The Temple of Death and I will read Mayer's article. Weird how some aspects are so, ehm, Heaven's Gatey. @Polygnotus It's fascinating how similar it is to Heaven's Gate! A lot of the sources mention how, despite having completely different origins (the OTS emerging more out of the Rosicrucianism/AMORC/Templar milieu, while Heaven's Gate emerged from more extraterrestrial type thought, though the OTS had that too), they developed an extremely similar idea, even using extremely similar language. Like a very culty form of convergent evolution. I plan to add this I am working on expanding the beliefs section.
My biggest interest is mostly crime/criminology honestly, so I find cults that commit crime to be extra fascinating and it gradually spread to the topic more broadly. I find the OTS so fascinating because it was so high profile but most English speakers had no clue about it, also it's just an especially wild story.
Thank you for expressing your interest btw. If you need any help on the Landmark page I will be willing to try; they interest me too it's just a bit of an intimidating field to try to stumble into... that page history is sure something. I think the similarity comes from the fact that most humans are just not very creative beings. The leaders are often very charismatic... but not very bright. The school of "we are all spacetravellers/death is just spacetravel" thought is just what happens when you give an immature mind access to weed. Smart people don't become leaders because they are almost never interested in leading. This is also why Xenu uses Douglas DC-8-like spacecraft. Perhaps someone has done research on cult memes? @Polygnotus A lot of the big 90s cults that exploded into violence (which are literally called "the Big Five") would reference each other which some of the sources point out. The Solar Temple said they wanted to be "more spectacular" than the Branch Davidians, while Heaven's Gate expressed sympathies towards them, Aum Shinrikyo, and Jonestown and said they would all make it to the "next level" AFAIK. Never seen anyone call it a meme, but I think a lot of that series of violent cult incidents in the 90s was probably something like social contagion. I think with the new discoveries of space things in the 20th century it was recontextualized with past religious experiences. @GenoV84 And my rationale for that edit was that the 1st and 2nd edition of that book are actually completely different in content despite having the same title so 1) linking to the page that I wrote that explains this helps and 2) it needs to specify what edition it is, which it doesn't. At least 3 times I have seen, at least 2 of which were on Satanism pages, someone has made a large scale content removal because they checked one version of the book and not the other and then believed that it was false referencing. I would like this to stop happening. @GiantSnowman DATEVAR is not about how the WIKITEXT is formatted when it is invisible to the reader. CS1 templates standardize it. @GiantSnowman It is not WP:OWN I am simply resisting a change in citation formatting for no reason, see WP:CITEVAR. Why would you change the date of the template? You didn't change it from dmy to mdy? Is it not supposed to be when it was initially placed there? Or are you really supposed to update the time every single time you change a citation? I am merely bringing some consistency to the article. Your immediate response was "i like it this way" [sic], which violates WP:IDONTLIKEIT, and you have no reason to 'resist the change' as you put it.
The template documentation says the the date should be updated when the style was last checked/changed (which is what I did) - the fact you don't know that is again telling of your utter ignorance. @GiantSnowman Yes... so if I unchanged the format by reverting you, of course I would not keep the changed template??? But call me "utterly ignorant", thanks for the personal attack mate! @GiantSnowman I changed it to be consistent with the formatting of all the other pages on the same topic, which is a reason above the singular improperly formatted citation with a day-level date format in the article. There was another reason for it (it facilitated merging and copying content between relevant pages with greater ease) which went over the CITEVAR concerns on an article with One Source With A Date Format. Do you believe the yyyy-mm-dd format is not acceptable? If so, may we discuss this further on the talk page for MOS:NUM? @GiantSnowman I reverted it on the Jouret article. As I wrote the Di Mambro one. I apologize for this edit warring, but your initial summary implied that yyyy-mm-dd was not a proper format, which it is.
The reason the OTS article uses the yyyy-mm-dd format is because I did that in preparation for fixing the old English article with a translation from the French, which used multiple formats, one of which was yyyy-mm-dd.
So now we have a situation in which the Jouret article uses a completely different format from all the other articles on the topic. I consider this irritating. @GiantSnowman To my knowledge the script changes it because, because in the past, if it had either a dmy or mdy template and used the wikitext date format, it would display that, however now the text format is overruled by the template when it comes to the display. I don't think it's fair to view it as an improper format for wikitext just because a script changes it.
Your point on the original format is fair I guess. If you want to change the main one you want to you can I guess (not that i own it just saying citevar and dateretain)? I'm willing to be honest this is probably very stupid but I do have OCD and incredibly, incredibly minor things being "wrong" disturb me greatly, which is why I got so edit-warrey. @GiantSnowman And you repeated the same change on the Di Mambro article, which I wrote in its entirety. Hi Parakanyaa. I was reviewing File:DoAndroidsDream.png for potential upload to Commons, and I see that you commented "i checked the book cover - does not contain a copyright for the cover individually, merely a credit without copyright symbol or year. due to the fact that the jacket required a separate copyright this is PD". Do you have a reference for that? I am aware that case law has required separate registration and notice for cover illustrations (link for Jaws), but in that example the registration/notice they were referring to was inside the book.
I am seeing a registration for the book, but I do not see a registration for a cover illustration. However, I don't have access to a first edition to verify whether notice was given. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 15:23, 6 October 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241006152300","author":"Crisco 1492","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Crisco_1492-20241006152300-Do_Androids_Dream_of_Electric_Sheep?","replies":["c-PARAKANYAA-20241006184900-Crisco_1492-20241006152300"],"displayName":"Chris Woodrich"}}-->
@Crisco 1492 I could have said that better, my point was more that there was no notice for the art, apologies for the ambiguity. I checked both inside the book and the cover jacket, there is no notice on either. The cover art notice can be either on the jacket or inside the book, I've seen both. But if there is no notice for the cover and only one for the book it is PD. Here's a copy on eBay where you can see the copyright notice internal to the book as well as the outside jacket. The back of the flap says it was made by Harry Sehring but does not contain a notice. Hi PARAKANYAA, you recently flagged a page I created about an intelligence community vendor as “not notable”. I find this shocking since the company in question provides technology that intercepts universal communications and is involved in mass surveillance spying. Either you don’t understand that this is a mass surveillance company or you support and are trying to hide the existence of these mass surveillance companies it seems. I have contested the speedy deletion and I welcome your perspective on why the public shouldn’t have greater awareness of mass surveillance companies especially given their extreme controversy and public interest.

Okay well if you think an NSA vendor is not important then I guess we know why the world is the way it is with the lack of public information due to censors and administrators like on here at Wikipedia that determine the agenda and narrative of what’s covered and not the community.

@Sergey911911911 I think I clicked the wrong decline rationale, apologies. The article as a whole needs to be fairly heavily copy edited, and there are some unreferenced bits, which is not allowed on a BLP. If it was a non-BLP that may be passable. My issue with notability is I'm not clear how evidenced his notability is outside the scandal - which, the scandal is definitely notable. @Mason7512 The Segovia and Major Esquinas ones I did too hastily, I think I tagged the wrong pages, they appear to have retrospective coverage and look fine. Apologies, I have been a bit sleep deprived lately, I will be more careful going forwards.
My issue with the farms massacre page is that the only source I can see on that page that gives sigcov and non passing mentions of the massacre is from right when it happened, or is a government report, which don't much help notability. I could not access the book source. Is there those retrospective articles or book coverage like the other two pages have? If so, add them, and feel free to remove the tag if so. Hello, sorry for the confusion, I am still learning how to effectively use Wikipedia. Thank you for notifying me about the talk feature.
I would be happy to try to communicate about things here.
I've been studying (seriously) the various neo-Templar movements for more than the last decade and have a pretty vast array of resources that I have accumulated, including primary and secondary sources/documents.
Unfortunately, the problem about the secondary sources with this field is that one must tread carefully - as many of the secondary sources are often times biased and often times used to try to assert dominance, authority, or legitimacy over another and are often times not really based exactly from primary sources, or distorted.
Anyways, as stated, you can find it yourself if you wish in the annals of the official registration in the "Belgisch Saatsbald" of January 1932 on page 16 No. 81. This includes the registration of the association and it's statutes.
I hope this helps you at all and I welcome any and all discuss.
Thank you 193.207.214.127 (talk) 19:08, 19 November 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241119190800","author":"193.207.214.127","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-193.207.214.127-20241119190800-Early_Belgian_Association_of_OSMT","replies":["c-PARAKANYAA-20241119192500-193.207.214.127-20241119190800"]}}-->
No issues, I didn't know how to do a lot of the more technical aspects when I was new here either. Going forward, it would be best to communicate on the talk page of the article, instead of my talk page, as it allows others to weigh in.
If you mean the Belgisch Staatsblad, I attempted to use this site to search, but got no results. Did you have a better place to access its archives? Or were they registered in a language other than French? The only languages I have familiarity with are French and English so it may have been impaired by that.
A thing with Wikipedia is it is supposed to be based off of secondary sources, which are, as you said, sometimes incorrect, distorted, or wrong. I have run into that repeatedly while looking into this topic (who founded what can be very confused it seems...) Primary sources may be used to augment this but this must be done extremely carefully to avoid WP:Original research. If this was actually a mistake on the part of the secondary sources, that's possible, but I'd be surprised that if in the 90 year history of this group not a single secondary source had ever been correct about it. I might not be looking hard enough for secondary sources, though. Also, If I am not mistaken, I believe that Milko Bogaard in one of his works - either the one on Martinism or that on AMORC - stated something about Harvey Spencer Lewis receiving charters from this association in 1933 (and stating the correct name). I also have a book (it might be in Italian) where it states that also Jean Malinger also received the same charters, etc., a few years later from the same association. Are your reasons for declining his Roy Ames draft really valid? Everyone in this scene, including yourself, has written about cases less notable than this while primarily using local coverage, and there never seems to be an issue.

@Swinub The sources are entirely local, half cited to Google drive, and the overarching narrative is of this strange theory promoted by YouTubers without any secondary coverage. The entire article is stitched together from primary sources to paint a narrative that doesn't exist in the secondary sources - WP:OR. Local coverage is fine for detail, but is iffy on notability, though I find I am more lenient towards its use in proving notability than many at AfD. In this case, there is no non-local coverage, at any point, judging from what it is the article.
Several sources in the page do not mention the subject. Half the the sources are Google Drive links, police records or other unreliable sources that do not help notability. If there was broader non-local coverage at the time or since or if there was any book coverage there would be a case for notability but as it is now, no. There's also BIO1E concerns as if he has any claim to notability it is the sex crimes, and the sourcing is not strong enough to overcome that and doesn't pass NEVENT. Another issue is the coverage is all ROTM trial stuff with no analytical or retrospective coverage.
And as for myself I do not think I have made articles for less notable criminal cases, no. Just because a lot of people ignore our notability guidelines doesn't mean we should. Curious what you meant by mentioning OCD? @Swinub The stuff about the connection with Dean Corll was the subject of a bunch of video essays by true crime YouTubers in the past few weeks and the subject of that article was involved. It’s related to a nationwide sex trafficking network that was alleged to involve several serial killers. Given the paucity of other sourcing and how that allegation can only be cited to primary source police documents I assume that is why it was created. I had noticed you had declined my friends submission on the Roy Ames article. Roy Ames is a large part of the picture of the Dean Corll case. Corll had 11 victims who were found in pornographic publications and this ties back to Ames's warehouse.
We could also add the story of Corll wanting to take Henley to a warehouse that was mentioned in the Serial Killers Apprentice. A book that had released just this last April that had helped to tie Ames into the Corll case more than he was mentioned before with Norman. I would also like to add regarding Ames we have discovered he was apart of a larger child sex trafficking and crime organization that was running in the United States.
This does not even include his ties to Texas radio and blues in the 60s and 70s and even after that. Johnny Winter was under his label for a very long time and was quite prolific in this scene and had hits in that era.
If Ames is not allowed, then why is there a Huey Meaux article and why have I been able to add to it and make that article less of a stub? Huey Meaux worked with Roy Ames and he too was tied to the same crime ring.
I am sorry, but I am pretty upset with your decision to decline my friends article as he had worked very hard on this and this is a topic that I know for both me and him is quite frankly important and we would like more people aware of what had occurred especially with the recent Flesh Simulator YouTube Video that had released back in October. @Anhedonicx How much does the book mention Ames? If there's significant coverage of him in that, then it should be added to the article, because as is it was not cited and the article as it is was cited entirely to primary source documents and very, very local news. The local news is fine for facts but doesn't much help notability, as to be frank there are a lot of local sex criminals.
Notability for a criminal is not based on how many people they victimized, but how much their crimes were covered in reliable, secondary sources. Is there significant coverage of the radio ties, in reliable secondary sources?
Huey Meux, looking at his article, seems to be notable through coverage from a variety of outlets over a decent period of time. Coverage all the way from Texas to California, and obituaries showing more retrospective coverage of his life. Unlike Ames. Still not the clearest cut sign of notability, but a lot better than Ames. Also, please stop adding Google Docs links as citations. You can add the original news report but directly linking it like that is technically a copyright violation. Hello, I have read over your discussion with other users in regards to your denial of my article. I and others have eliminated all of the Google drive links in the reference sections. I also added an official United State government hearing that includes multiple references to the subject and included a section at the end of the Dean Corll allegations to state the impact of his involvement and curtail any perceived bias, as well as updated my verbiage in those sections to better reflect a neutral tone. I also want to dispute the assertion that the subject has low notability as I have multiple sources, government hearing included, that are reporting outside of the subject's locality, some of which have no relation to the location of crimes committed by the subject, notably the Plain Dealer write up, a publication in Ohio. The book For Money or Love was also a national publication out of New York. Furthermore, most of my sources directly mention the subject by name and indicate a larger reach to his crimes outside of Texas. @Tj6555 Thank you for replacing the links, that problem is now resolved. US government hearings are not very helpful for notability, as are legal notices/hearings generally. The content seems to be better now, at least, but it's still cited a lot to primary source documents.
The best sources in the article for proving notability now are the Houston Chronicle death notice, which is very good content wise (I would recommend citing that more), but is local. However Houston is a big city and the Houston Chronicle is a very big paper, so that's not too bad. The For Money or Love book is also OK, but without seeing it I can't know how significant the coverage is. From what it's cited to I would not think it is sigcov, but I could be wrong. The Plain Dealer source I would not say is sigcov when it comes to Ames. If this was all there was I would not think he passes NCRIMINAL.
However, searching myself, since at this point I'm invested, I did actually find several other sources about him [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] and probably more. Considering that he is probably notable as a musician, and were these sources in the article at the time I probably would have accepted it. But at this point I'm probably too involved to judge this draft. @Truth Layer 123 The title is written like a news lead instead of an encyclopedic lead. I would read WP:LEAD for more guidance on this. According to what I understand, I do agree with title renaming requirement. Additionally, a "lasting effect" and national or international coverage are crucial for an event to be considered noteworthy. This particular event was covered on all the major news outlets across the country, it can be seen in the references. When it comes to lasting effect, the incident was alos discussed across the local and state media this week and known to have an effect on the state elections. I'll make the necessary changes to title and lead in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines and submit it once again. Thank you for the guidance. You need to read wp:bludgeon. @Slatersteven Every response bar one was responding to someone who was responding to me. If I was responding to every other response in that thread, sure, but that's not what I'm doing. But you keep on creating the same (nonpolicy) based argument. If it did not work before it won't work for the 15th time. @Slatersteven No I'm not, we are debating whether it would or would not constitute racial bias and what racial bias means. That's not a one step yes-no question. And is it a matter of "working"? What do you think I'm trying to do here? On a personal level I couldn't care less if we banned every single paper outside of the west but it's ridiculous as long as we parade ourselves as "diverse" with combatting "systemic bias" being official initiatives of the foundation that runs the website.
