Well, Marnette, indeed you can assume quite a lot. Actually, Richard Curtis is a good friend and used to lodge with me and my husband in his student years. But whatever rocks your boat... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Braab69 (talkcontribs) 15:47, 13 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-13T15:47:00.000Z","author":"Braab69","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Braab69-2011-12-13T15:47:00.000Z-The_Black_Adder_-_Shakespeare_reference","replies":["c-Redrose64-2011-12-13T16:04:00.000Z-Braab69-2011-12-13T15:47:00.000Z"]}}-->

The problem is that we have no way of knowing whether your claim of Curtis being a personal friend is true or not. Thanks for taking the time to try and explain things Redrose64. If you've seen the edit in question you will also know that it had WP:OR and WP:SPECULATION problems. As to the friendship issue, if that is the case then perhaps Mr Curtis can direct you to an interview that he has given where he confirms your guess, Braab69. You might also thank him, for me, for his work "Vincent and the Doctor" as it was one of the most emotional Dr Who episodes that I have ever experienced. It is also the right time of year to enjoy a Curtis/Atkinson three pack of TV shows by watching "Blackadder's Christmas Carol", "Merry Christmas Mr. Bean" and the wonderful Bernard and the Genie. I see you re added a copyright tag to the above article stating "do not remove this tag until the article has been investigated by a thrid party" so what is disputed in the article?

Thanks for your question. To get your answer you'll have to ask User:MarcusBritish. I was following User:Sheodred who seems to be running to various message boards claiming that they are being harassed as well as stating that other editors edits are vandalism while, in turn making personal attacks of his/her own. If you can find no copyvios that plz feel free to remove the tag. Also please don't forget to sign your posts by using ~~~~. Cheers and enjoy the rest of your week

I am suggesting, very politely, that you refer to Wikipedia's guidelines for supporting entries. The entry that I corrected under this article had no citation and no support. As such, it had no validity under Wikipedia's guidelines. Do you have any evidence that Eric Porter went to Wimbledon College? If not, then I suggest that your assertion that there should be a consensus is groundless. If you insist on removing my edit, then you must also remove the 6/6/09 edit that introduced the error, since that offers no source and by Wikipedia rules has no validity. I would remind you that had you taken this attitude in 2009, you would have reverted the 6/6/09 in the first place and this laughable situation would not have arisen. To conclude, I reiterate: show me the evidence that Eric Porter went to Wimbledon College. If you insist on reverting unsourced edits - which I suggest you do - then you must revert 6/6/09 edit. The sourced entries from 7/2/08 indicate that I am correct.SDasey (talk) 23:44, 15 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-15T23:44:00.000Z","author":"SDasey","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-SDasey-2011-12-15T23:44:00.000Z-Eric_Porter","replies":["c-MarnetteD-2011-12-15T23:56:00.000Z-SDasey-2011-12-15T23:44:00.000Z"]}}-->

I don't have to "do" anything. Especially since you have already reverted. Your edit summary stated that Wimbledon College did not exist when clearly it does and that was all that I was referring to with my rvt. As if the VCV wasn't irritating enough, there's definitely another vandal afoot that is a major Frank Welker filmography vandal in Gainesville, FL. Notice the similarities:

98.70.140.86

98.70.35.88

And I'm sure there's more. Obsessed with Welker and dinosaurs and snakes. Yay. I've actually e-mailed Mr. Welker on what is supposedly his official website to try and straighten this mess out. I'll let you know if/when he responds; and thanks as always for your help (and everyone else's, too!). BTW - I talked to the nice woman who runs his site, and she said that he (and she) have been... less than pleased with WP. One problem that soured things was a photo that was attempted to be uploaded, and apparently it got shot down (she said it's the one on IMDB). He is obviously a busy man and doesn't have time to list every role he's ever done, but through her he stated that the earlier credits in his career were correct, but that he hasn't updated his own official list in years. She appreciates the efforts, however, and acknowledged that IMDB has also been a problem with fake credits (I'm sure these pests are over there as well). If you would, please take a look at the recent edit history here, and perhaps add your tuppence worth on the talk page. I think I am too involved now to look at any of this clearly, and the anon. editor's attitude is so irksome I cannot see past it. When I posted about this on the FilmProject the other day, it was in the hope that some other editors would get involved and I could step away, to keep things from escalating, but that did not happen. Now, it is mutually assured destruction, as both the anon. and I have violated 3RR, and could --- probably should --- end up blocked. Someone not previously involved needs to take a look before it gets worse. As I know you are a quality editor, who will not shy from telling me I am wrong, if that be the case, I am asking you to take a look. Happy Holidays to you as well. FYI, I am a semi-religious agnostic who celebrates a highly traditional Christmas. I'm a LOT more familiar with post-2005 Who than the old version, though I have seen perhaps one Lalla Ward episode. She has the distinction of being one of the very few 20th-century companions with whom a slight romantic tension developed.
However, while living in England at age 11 for a year in 66-67, I did in fact see a majority of the now-erased lost Who episodes that have been subsequently wiped, including the first 6 out of 7 episodes of "The Evil of the Daleks" now widely held to be one of the greatest of all Dalek episodes. We had to leave England before the final broadcast, and I !*literally*! waited 21 years to find out how it ended!!!! I am a proud owner of the novelization of the episode (which interjects some info about Daleks from the later Tom Baker period to smooth over some discontinuities), certainly the most valued TV novelization in my entire library.
Lalla not only illustrates Dawkins books. She reads them on tape as well. Wow. I didn't even know you could get lost episodes (audio only) on CD. Moffat also did a tremendous 2007 mini-series update of Jekyll/Hyde just called "Jekyll" (six episodes), and did the recent BBC "Sherlock" series, the only successful attempt ever (IMHO) to put Holmes in a different time-era (early 21st century).
More oddly, Moffat is the author of a famous (and hilarious) TV Dr. Who comedy parody from the mid-1990s entitled "Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death" starring Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) as Dr. Who (at the start- he gets wounded and remorphs several times in the course of a 20 to 30 minute parody, but I'll let you find it online and watch it.)--WickerGuy (talk) 00:20, 23 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-23T00:20:00.000Z","author":"WickerGuy","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T00:20:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-22T23:20:00.000Z","replies":["c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T00:20:00.000Z"]}}-->
Some (not all) Standard computer DVD players can play region-free if you get the right software for it. Computer DVDs region-protect entirely by software. Most DVD playback software (the standard RealPlayer and Windows Media Player) only allow the regional stuff, but download VideoLAN DVD software (its based in France) and your computer will play Region 2 material. According to their website

Does VLC support DVDs from all regions?
This mostly depends on your DVD drive. Testing it is usually the quickest way to find out. The problem is that a lot of newer drives are RPC2 drives these days. Some of these drives don't allow raw access to the drive untill the drive firmware has done a regioncheck. VLC uses libdvdcss and it needs raw access to the DVD drive to crack the encryption key. So with those drives it is impossible to circumvent the region protection. (This goes for all software. You will need to flash your drives firmware, but sometimes there is no alternate firmware available for your drive). On other RPC2 drives that do allow raw access, it might take VLC a long time to crack the key. So just pop the disc in your drive and try it out, while you get a coffee. RPC1 drives should 'always' work regardless of the regioncode.

On my fathers MacIntosh VLC indeed DOES allow watching Region 2. I've never attempted to watch Region 2 on my PC.--WickerGuy (talk) 01:27, 23 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z","author":"WickerGuy","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T00:20:00.000Z","replies":["c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T05:10:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z","c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T05:10:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z-1"]}}-->
Hopefully, it is only the website quote with a lot of computerese jargon. Trying to clarify the website's jargon
The bottom line is that VLC's FREE software from France will on older computer DVD drives play DVDs from any region.
The tech lowdown.
DVD drives like most other computer devices have hardware, firmware, and software. The exact dividing line between the middle and the latter is a tad ambiguous, but firmware is controlling computer code that has hardwired into some special chip or flash drive or whatever on the device. Replace that chip or flash drive with a different one and the machine behaves differently. Older DVD players have firmware called RPC1, and newer have RPC2. The older firmware RPC1 simply doesn't enforce region-encoding at all (although most commercial SOFTWARE for playing DVDs on computers DOES!). The newer firmware RPC2 usually DOES enforce region encoding.
Region protection largely works by having all DVDs encrypted with one of several dozen "public keys". In order access the decode key (somewhere on the physical DVD disk), your DVD player normally requires you to be in the correct region. (Region-protection works entirely via your ability to access the decoding decryption key- there is no other difference between DVDs around the world.) The French VLC software works on the older RPC1 DVD drives by just bypassing the region-protection, but on the newer RPC2 drives it needs to somehow "crack" the key, which could take a while computationally. This is doable on most DVDs, but prohibitive on high-def DVDs or Blue-Ray which use much longer keys with many more digits and bits. (The more digits used in the numeric ENcryption key, the longer it takes to figure out the DEcryption key.)
I hope this helps. If not, I can't clarify it further.
Bottom line. The older your computer's DVD drive, the more likely it is that the FREE French playback software VLC will allow you to play Region 2 disks on your computer.--WickerGuy (talk) 05:10, 23 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-23T05:10:00.000Z","author":"WickerGuy","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T05:10:00.000Z-WickerGuy-2011-12-23T01:27:00.000Z-1","replies":[]}}-->

I thought that I was reverting to the correct name as I had seen you do earlier today. I now realize that my error was in thinking that this edit [1] had reverted your previous edit to the incorrect name. It was actually made at a different spot in the article and I missed this fact. I am glad that you fixed things and will certainly make sure that the correct name is used at all locations in the article. As I look at the edit history of the last few days that is the only time that I can find that I changed it to the incorrect name (though I might have missed one) so it is an exaggeration for you to state that I "continually" revert to the wrong name. That article gets so much traffic at this time of year that reverting to the wrong name can happen and I apologize for missing my booboo. Thanks for you vigilance in taking care of the article. In a week or so things will quite down for a bit and we should have an easier time of it until next November. Have a great 2012 on wiki and off. Thanks for your kind message. No problem at all with the correction on Thunderbird 6 - I suspected that it was just a simple mistake. Anyway, United Artists was the distributor, so perhaps writing "by any definition" wasn't completely accurate on my part. I often notice your efforts to keep unsourced or poorly-sourced content out of actor-related BLPs (Martin Landau springs to mind) and wanted to say well done for your diligence. Please do not bite the newcomers as you did with this edit to a new user. Additionally making a higher level warning because the user had "done the same edit as an IP" is unacceptable when the IP was not communicated with in any way shape or form on the IP talk page. WP:AGF these were good faith edits by someone who wanted to create a new page but was not quite sure what they were doing. Continuing to bite the newcomers could result in being reported to Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance.--ClubOranjeT 20:33, 29 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-29T20:33:00.000Z","author":"ClubOranje","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-ClubOranje-2011-12-29T20:33:00.000Z-Biting","replies":["c-MarnetteD-2011-12-29T21:01:00.000Z-ClubOranje-2011-12-29T20:33:00.000Z"]}}-->

(Also posted on the editors talk page) Your template of my page is both unproductive and unwarranted. If you would do some investigation as to what went on you would see that this IP 180.194.28.154 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) put in the vanity stuff about Ark Pereira and was reverted by someone else. This person then created created an account Ken Philip (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and entered the same info again. I was completely within my rights as a volunteer to protect Wikipedia from further disruptive editing. If you look at the last two edits (and hopefully last two full stop) you will see that they are not here to add anything productive to the project. In the highly unlikely event that your message on their talk page turns them into a productive editor then good on you. I have seen enough of this nonsense in my long history of editing here to doubt that will be the case. Neither of the templates that you used on my talk page is going to change my use of the guidelines that I are in place to protect Wikipedia from this sort unproductive editing. If - two years from now - this person turns out to have edited any articles in a useful manner then I will be happy to congratulate you on helping them. If, as I suspect, they were here to put up a vanity page about themselves I would expect the same from you. The line between biting and protecting is a thin one and I will stand on my long record of being able to tell the difference between editors here to help build an encyclopedia and those that aren't. For the record, I haven't used any templates on your talk page. Apart from that you are dead right, you can do pretty much whatever you like as a volunteer - as can I. And I stand by what I said. Whether this editor turns out productive or not is beside the point; new editors should be given encouragement and assistance. Then they decide whether to be productive or not. The decision should not be made for them by other editors before any other communication has even taken place. --ClubOranjeT 09:29, 30 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z","author":"ClubOranje","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-ClubOranje-2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z-MarnetteD-2011-12-29T21:04:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

(talk page stalker) Geez Louise, what happened to AGF and treating your fellow editors with respect? ClubOranje if you're concerned regarding a message left on another editor's talk page then it would be more appropriate to simply inquire as to whether the message was appropriate given the circumstances as opposed to coming here with templated guns blazing speaking of a level 2 template being "unacceptable" (which is untrue) and threatening trips to ANI and WQA. Someone was bitten here, but I don't think it's the person you think it is. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 21:33, 29 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-29T21:33:00.000Z","author":"Ponyo","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ponyo-2011-12-29T21:33:00.000Z-Biting","replies":["c-ClubOranje-2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z-Ponyo-2011-12-29T21:33:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Jezebel'sPonyo"}}-->

AGF and respect is exactly what it is about - and it applies equally to new editors. Perhaps if MarnetteD is concerned regarding another editors first edit it would be more appropriate to to simply enquire as to whether they knew what they were doing and maybe needed some help rather than going to their talk page "with templated guns blazing" threatening them with "loss of editing privileges". --ClubOranjeT 09:29, 30 December 2011 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z","author":"ClubOranje","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-ClubOranje-2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z-Ponyo-2011-12-29T21:33:00.000Z","replies":["c-MarnetteD-2011-12-30T15:22:00.000Z-ClubOranje-2011-12-30T09:29:00.000Z"]}}-->

Well, I hadn't gotten to see this [2]. Turns out it the article didn't survive a full day and the editor has been blocked. Will you feel the need to template the blocking admin? Since you did not put both of your replies in chronological order (the way that talk page guidelines recommend BTW) I can also state that in my 6+ years and over 50,000 edits here I have given plenty of new editors encouragement and assistance - an example of that is on this page at the moment. Of course, you would have had to investigate and ask before making this edit [3] which is considered templating the regulars. Ah well, I won't be holding my breath waiting for the apology that should be forthcoming and which an editor who claims to have the communities best interests in mind would find no trouble in doing. So I will simply send my best wishes for your 2012 on wiki and off. I'm new and haven't learned how to add a pretty picture yet, or would have. Sorry, I didn't know till I read another post here that Imdb is not a valid reference; I will fix. Is citing Wiki as a reference acceptable? I was trying to verify Jude Law's role in Shoscombe Old Place, and corrected from servant to innkeeper.

To answer your question "No" you cannot cite another Wiki. Their content is user generated and can be altered by anyone - thus anything stated on a Wiki is unreliable. However for the Jude Law role you can cite the credits of the episode itself where he is credited as Joe Barnes. Please be aware that the writers of the TV episode changed Joe's profession for the purposes of their storytelling and that is mentioned here The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place#Adaptations.
As to you email and question about pictures I know almost nothing about all the ins and outs of what can and cannot be added to WikiP. Your best bet will be to ask about your pictures at this noticeboard Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. If they cant help you they should be able to direct you where you can get some help. Hi, Marnette; I haven't seen you before. I've left a brief note at ANI explaining how a careless capitalization of my three apostrophes after "Support" bolded my entire post. It was never my intention to do that, and it lasted only the few moments it took me to realize and remedy my error. (I did not preview my post.)

On the sockpuppetry, this exchange:

::Couldn't the IP address of ChristianHistory be checked to see if he/she has abused multiple accounts (a.k.a. sockpuppetry).--R-41 (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2012 (UTC) __DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-01-02T21:01:00.000Z","author":"R-41","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-R-41-2012-01-02T21:01:00.000Z-Suggested_sockpuppet_investigation","replies":["c-Ian.thomson-2012-01-02T21:06:00.000Z-R-41-2012-01-02T21:01:00.000Z"]}}-->

To Rivertorch: Hm... yeah, that is concerning. If anyone knows of a previous user whose behavior resembles his, it'd be nice to know. He tends to hang in areas I'm not usually present in, so I couldn't recognize any MO if I looked.
To R-41: From my understanding of the SPI guidelines, we need more evidence, like similar behavior with another account. I understand this. An investigation of banned users who have participated in the same material edited by ChristianHistory would likely determine if ChristianHistory is abusing multiple accounts. Typically a banned user who abuses accounts will open a new account shortly after one has been banned, so perhaps an investigation of recently banned users partaking in editing of similar material as ChristianHistory has.--R-41 (talk) 21:15, 2 January 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-01-02T21:15:00.000Z","author":"R-41","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-R-41-2012-01-02T21:15:00.000Z-Ian.thomson-2012-01-02T21:06:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

seemed to me an indignant and unjustified response--a fishing expedition; hence my plea to calm down and take a deep breath. (This Last year I was subjected to a totally unwarranted SP investigation; perhaps I'm the one reacting here.) Reviewing this:

If I had said R-41's proposals were hypocritical, and that he appeared to be a real racist and full of hate, that would have escaped violation? I don't need to read the policies, I've been here for over four years. I know the game, and I know the weasels. And no, I've never been banned, and no I've never received any violations. And no, I'm not a sock puppet. The policy taken by most editors on the Fascism article is an admitted violation of NPOV, and is hypocritical in that they wouldn't apply those same principles to an article on Judaism.--ChristianHistory (talk) 08:50, 1 January 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-01-01T08:50:00.000Z","author":"ChristianHistory","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-ChristianHistory-2012-01-01T08:50:00.000Z-Suggested_sockpuppet_investigation","replies":[]}}-->

Thanks for your note. I guessed that the bolding might have been a mistake but got caught in an edit conflict so I reworded my note about it just in case you didn't know that had happened. My comment about an investigation is based on CH's own comment here [4] claiming to have edited here for years. While not completely against wikiguidelines (a person can have an alternate account as long as they announce it openly) a statement like this does not engender AGF. Thanks again for taking the time to write to me and may you have a wonderful 2012 on Wiki and off.
