Should the IGI 2 pictures be removed (of the characters) since they're too detailed? I know another topic-specific (Gaming) wiki where they could go in. Anything else you feel unnecessary or too detailed?

Assessment Department: This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's video games articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work, and are also expected to play a role in the WP:1.0 program, and more specifically in the Video games essential articles page.
Two new quality ratings have been implemented into the Assessment Department's scale. The new Wikipedia-wide C-Class rating (see category) has been added to the scale between Start-Class and B-Class. Because of this, the criteria of the B-Class has been tweaked to better illustrate the difference between a B-Class and C-Class article. An older rating, List-Class (see category), has been added to the scale as well. It is mainly used on pages that have very little prose and are primarily tables and lists of information.
Editors are encouraged to submit articles for assessment if they feel an article has made significant progress up the assessment scale or has gained importance within video game articles. Assessed articles generally receive some feedback to further improve the article. Experienced editors are also encouraged to help with assessment of articles when the number of requests gets too large.
Peer Review Department: The Peer review process for WikiProject Video games exposes video-game-related articles to closer scrutiny from a broader group of editors, and is intended for high-quality articles that have already undergone extensive work, often as a way of preparing a Featured article candidate. It is not a academic peer review by a group of experts in a particular subject, and articles that undergo this process should not be assumed to have greater authority than any other.
Editors are encouraged to use the Video game peer review process, as well as the regular Wikipedia-wide process, to improve the quality of articles. While a peer review can be done at any time, it strongly suggested to use this process before an article goes up for Good article nomination and Featured article or Feature list candidacy as articles cannot be a candidate for GA or FA while at peer review.
Editors are also encouraged to leave feedback for articles undergoing peer review. A process such as this will not work if editors do not give as well as take. Feedback can range from brief comments after skimming through a page to a full blown dissection of grammar, structure, and references. Either way, every bit helps.

You're not stepping on anyone's toes. I'm always glad to get some feedback on an article I've been starring at for too long.
As far as expanding the gameplay, I'm at a loss as to what else can be added in that isn't trivial detail. Since the article is about the original arcade version, I tried to focus on that version's gameplay, which is very basic. Aside from expanding on the scoring (10pt for bottom aliens, 20pt for middle, 30pt for top, and randomized for the mystery ship), I'm not sure what else there is to add. But I worry that such level of detail is gameguide content. Any thoughts?
In regard to the rerelease section, I see your point, but I think it fits under the main "Impact and legacy" section as rereleases and sequels are a part of its legacy. I had planned to see what comments the article would get at GAN to maybe make some last minute tweaks before FAC. If you don't mind waiting, could you bring this up at the FAC? I think a few more viewpoints would be good.
Thanks for the comments and please feel free to share your thoughts on any article. Thanks for uploading Image:Evil dead 03.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

I don't have any solution to make the lists better. I'm here on Wikipedia for knowledge, nothing else. Bulbapedia is the perfect replacement for that WikiProject, I'm helping out there. (and to be honest I'm mainly there for knowledge too.)
I know you're right that something can be done. I just can't see it happening that the lists will become useful. I know you miss me to be part of this WikiProject, but let's face it, most of the active contributors of the Project have left it, and it's just my time to go. Nobody can provide any policy based reason as to why we should trust a source which fails WP:V and WP:RS to hold reliable transcripts. That makes the section disputed. I didn't move it, I simple inserted that the section is dubious because its under current debate. A debate which no one else has continued to add anything to. Simply ignoring it doesn't make the disputed guideline okay.--Crossmr (talk) 04:02, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T04:02:00.000Z","author":"Crossmr","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:02:00.000Z-Fansites","replies":["c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:11:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:02:00.000Z"]}}-->
perception of logic? By the pages own admission the sites do not meet WP:V. There is no great interpretation of logic to assume that we can't trust them to host transcripts. WP:RS already has a precedent that videos hosted on non-official sites not be considered reliable because its possible they could be tampered with. In addition to this I gave an example of just such a case which has occurred on wikipedia and gone on for several months.--Crossmr (talk) 04:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T04:11:00.000Z","author":"Crossmr","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:11:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:02:00.000Z","replies":["c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:24:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:11:00.000Z"]}}-->
Reliable sources making mistakes is fairly immaterial. Everyone makes mistakes, however as a community we consider those sites as unreliable which doesn't seem to be a contended point. I can't see how its remotely possible that we would accept that an unreliable site is allowed to host content that we consider reliable. Where is your citation for that? How can you prove to random reader X that what the fansite has is accurate? That the transcript they have of cutscene Y is 100% verbatim? Tell them to play the game and watch the cutscene? Then cite the cutscene directly. There is no reason to cite the fansite.--Crossmr (talk) 04:24, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T04:24:00.000Z","author":"Crossmr","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:24:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:11:00.000Z","replies":["c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:39:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:24:00.000Z"]}}-->
Admins opinion have no more weight in enforcing policy than any other editor. Admins serve only to use their tools in places where discussion alone isn't enough. blocking disruptive editors, deleting articles, etc. If there is a reliable source, then there is no need to cite the fansite. As to what makes reviewers and other things more reliable, is spelled out on WP:RS. Yes, mistakes can be made. But just because a reliable source can make a mistake doesn't make it acceptable to cite an unreliable source. I've just read WP:V and WP:RS again but I can't find anything in there that says if your reliable source makes a mistake, feel free to cite any old page you want.--Crossmr (talk) 04:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T04:39:00.000Z","author":"Crossmr","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:39:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:24:00.000Z","replies":["c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:51:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:39:00.000Z"]}}-->
A stubbron bull? Because I ask that all citations adhere to policy? Your only defense of this section is to claim reliable sources can make mistakes so citing a fansite is fine over and over. As far as circumventing discussion, this is a relevant discussion about reliable sources which even relates to another existing discussion on the page (youtube videos, allegedly reliable things hosted on a self-published medium). This is a completely relevant discussion to the noticeboard, as it not only applies to videogames, but other subjects as I've demonstrated with the problem with the flash comic article.--Crossmr (talk) 04:51, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T04:51:00.000Z","author":"Crossmr","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:51:00.000Z-Crossmr-2008-09-15T04:39:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
Thank you for taking the time to contact me. In response to the deleted material, it is covered briefly:
"Because of its many delays, there was much material cut and various pieces of unused data exist in the game engine, including data for a second battle with Kain, extra Soul Reaver powers, and other bosses. A compilation of these deleted materials has been compiled by Ben Lincoln at "thelostworlds.net" Some of the images for these deleted materials appear in the Chronoplast as visions of alternative futures that might come to be."
There's also a GameSpot interview, which the subsequent paragraph details. The rest of the development section is fairly important, detailing the game's original concept, that concept's adaptation into the game, and the disolving relationship between the series' parent companies. The problem is finding sources for all this. A fansite says "Dennis Dyack has revealed..." except I can't find exactly where or when he said it. As I said on his talk page - if I can't find it on Google, I never will. Maybe Dyack said it in a magazine, I'll never know. See my problem? It just irritates me when primary sources offer nothing, secondary sources are limited and fansites are unreliable simply because they're fansites. The Clawed One (talk)
Well that's the thing, most of the deleted materials on thelostworlds does come with extracted audio and screenshots. For example, there was a scene cut where Raziel kills Ariel and absorbs her powe - the dialogue for this file is downloadable, and unless the guy is a crack audio editor, that's certainly the official voices. But it's hosted by a fansite, so from what I was told, it's out the door. Here, see for yourself: http://www.thelostworlds.net/SR1/The_Death_of_Ariel.html
I also contacted the site owner, to see if he knows of where else the information he provides can be found - hopefully he can point me in the right direction to a reliable coverage. The Clawed One (talk)
Unfortunately the only name I have is the one the fansite uses, and I have no idea how to source audio sources. The Clawed One (talk)
I'd seen the GIA article, but the IGN article sourcing them puts it in a new light. It gives GIA credibility, and gives me a secondary source of GIA isn't usable. Thanks! I'm also going to source thelostworlds for a section, but make a point of saying it's a temporary source while I track down who they're citing, because I am. The Clawed One (talk)
Just a FYI, I finally tracked down some reliable sources over "thelostworlds", and nominated the article for GA status. Wish me luck! The Clawed One (talk)
That's a great start, and I think you have all the refs to back it up; so I'm perfectly fine with it. If you ever decide the article is ready for FAC, then it will need some polishing, but it will do great for now. --haha169 (talk) 05:37, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-09-15T05:37:00.000Z","author":"Haha169","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Haha169-2008-09-15T05:37:00.000Z-Re:_Necrid","replies":[]}}-->

You say you'll report me if I move the Sakura and Ken articles again? You're the one ignoring the naming policy, not me. You reporting it will be enough to name the articles by their common name forever. If you remember, the agreement was to use the names frequently used in easy to see places - ie, Under health bars, on player select screens or versus screens etc - not names sometimes found in biographies, endings and the like. This isn't an agreement about whether or not to retain this information, but where in the article it is placed - and the title is the wrong place. Continue moving this articles to your preferred title names, and I'll involve other users. 39 of 393 articles have been prepared and submitted. Come help us prepare more at the workshop page.
Feature: Wikipedia 0.7
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of articles taken from the English version of Wikipedia, compiled by the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team. It is designed for a DVD release, and the selection was put together using a Selection Bot, based on the quality and importance assigned by WikiProjects.
The Video games Project and its daughter projects have multiple articles among the selection and are currently working on cleaning up the articles to improve their presentation. A workshop page has been set up that is designed to assist and coordinate the effort. The status of and recommendations for articles is listed on the table. Discussion about which articles should be kept and removed from the list have been taking place on the talk page.
If you have assisted in working on and improving a current Featured article, Good article, or A-Class article, please check the workshop page to see if the article is recommended for inclusion.
Articles will need an id version submitted to ensure it is included. They will also need to be cleaned up if maintenance tags and other issues are present. Participation is not restricted, and if you can assist with the preparation effort, it would be greatly appreciated.
Things to remember for preparation
The workshop page has a notes section for each article. Clean up suggestions have been left for some articles.
Do a light sweep of the article to address any vandalism andclean up tags: citation needed, more references, lengthy plot, etc.
If you need help with an article, post on the talk page.

Hello, Kung Fu Man. You have new messages at Tikiwont's talk page. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Yes, I believe that would be appropriate now, and would probably help remove a lot of in-universe information. The Pikachu article should be top priority. Quick question. How do you feel about using the character select artwork from Street Fighter IV for the infoboxes like this one? Or this? They're not as "inked" as the full body illustrations and they depict the main characters decently above waist. Do you know for a fact that it is possible to fill those out with real world information, or is it just based on the fact that the series is fairly iconic in the manga industry? The funeral is definitely something to help establish notability, but its main purpose was to advertise the film and it obviously fits on the list. I can't really imagine that it even compares to an average sci-fi convention and the like, though. I know that sources are generally hard to find for Japanese characters, but it would be nice to have at least a base if I'm going to leave them alone. Sticking with my comparison, those are really the same kind of responses you'd get from any sort of convention. There were definitely people there for the character, but they really have as much impact on reception as comments from two hundred guys dressed up as Darth Vader. I looked on the Japanese article to see if they discussed any other impact of the characters, but the only thing was a slightly extended overview of the funeral (as far as I can tell with bad internet translations). An extremely cursory look over the three common google searches didn't reveal anything of interest either. I'm certainly not saying this is impossible like various other characters, but do you have any sort of idea of where you would look? What do you think of the format I'm using for Gouken and Yun and Yang? I'm thinking of rewriting most of the Street Fighter character articles in this format (and probably other fighting game related articles) so that it covers conception and development (including an overview of appearances), backstory, techniques, other media appearances and everything else after that. For some time now, the Video games project and the Military history project have been cross listing their articles undergoing peer review in an effort to improve the quality of articles, as well as the copy editing skills of editors. The idea was first proposed by User:Krator as a way to better prepare articles for Featured article candidacy. After being approved by both projects, the idea was implemented under a trial period, and eventually approved as a standard practice.
New, cross listed military history articles are announced on the Video games project talk page, and listed on the Video games Peer review page under a special section. Video game editors are encouraged to leave any type of comments that come to mind. If you don't know anything about military history, that's perfectly fine because that's the point. An editor lacking knowledge about the particular topic can provide a helpful point of view as a general reader—the intended audience.
A peer review process such as this will not work if editors do not give as well as take.
Peer reviews are meant to examine not just the prose, but the sources and images used in the article.
Feedback can range from brief comments after skimming through a page to a full blown dissection of grammar, structure, and references. Either way, every bit helps.
Reviewing another editor's article can help sharpen your writing skills, which in turn can improve the articles you write.

Like the various other video game web comics, they have covered hundreds upon hundreds of different video games and related topics. Were it something like Krakow, I'd agree with you. However given the individuals have been interviewed and featured in gaming magazines and have their own commercial games distributed through XBL last I checked, I'm more inclined to think they have a bit more weight.
In addition, while butchered, that particular strip was also in a magazine. However at this time I can't recall if it was PSM or not, and google isn't helping.
If you don't feel they should be considered a source for notability and reception TTN and think everyone would agree with you, hit up the vg project discussion. Just in case this is indicative of further deletions, can I ask you to refrain from trying to AfD any other HL characters? Whilst an utter mess at present, they are a surmountable problem. A number of editors are slowly working through cleaning up the Half-Life series, and as was the case with Locations of Half-Life, a merged character article is in the works, a'la Characters of StarCraft, Characters of Halo, etc. It tends to be useful to have the edit histories to work with when merging, so it would be helpful if they aren't deleted. -- Sabre (talk) 15:19, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-11-28T15:19:00.000Z","author":"S@bre","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-S@bre-2008-11-28T15:19:00.000Z-Half-Life_characters","replies":[],"displayName":"Sabre"}}-->

The SNES version is the only version North America and PAL regions ever got, so why shouldn't we use it? And why shouldn't the article be about the most well-known version? - A Link to the Past(talk)
There's no question about the recognizability of the arcade Centipede, but for many people, they have no idea that there is an arcade version. To all English regions, the SNES version is the only version, and the article should use the SNES image. And as for consistency, there's no consistency rule, which is why having mostly ESRB-rated boxarts doesn't mean other related articles have to use the ESRB-rated boxarts. - A Link to the Past(talk)04:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-01T04:08:00.000Z","author":"A Link to the Past","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-A_Link_to_the_Past-2008-12-01T04:08:00.000Z-Gradius_III","replies":[]}}-->
Could you please amplify on your comment that the article on Ciel grossly violated Notability? In addition, you didn't actually MERGE the article, though no consensus was reached in any case, you merely deleted and redirected with no transferring of information whatsoever. I look forward to your reasoning. Oh, and I restored the article, if you feel it should be deleted or merged, bring it up in the proper forum please. Err...I'm not sure I understand what you mean by saying I posted the same thing in every Fate AFD. As far as I can recall, I haven't ever commented on AFD's for them, so I'm a bit confused as to who exactly you think I am. Also, per your arguments that the Fate characters have no third party references, feel free to nominate all Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and all other fighting game genre articles. While the existence of an article shouldn't be used as rational for another article being kept, there's certainly nothing wrong with pointing out that other, more well known series are as bad or worse on sources, YET ARE STILL HERE. Perhaps they should be removed. If crappy articles will and should be dealt with, why is it a bad idea to deal with them? Your reasoning is confusing in that you make the former claim, then toss out the latter, contradicting yourself. If the articles I pointed out need to be worked on...what's the problem? I was merely suggesting more work for you since you're concerned with article quality. Whether they're dealt with now, later, singly, or all at once shouldn't come into the discussion, should it? The fact remains that they do need to be dealt with, and I feel you're the man for the job. I understand your opinions about the Tsukihime characters being merged, but since you said they failed WP:N grossly, if I restored the articles and somehow fixed it, would they be fine? I'm also a fan of the series myself, and I don't want some characters article to be deleted. And it's not like I'm trying to save some of my images or something. About the Fate/Stay Night characters, there are some characters with a small role but they do have articles, I'm glad that you have fix it.
Sorry if my English skill is bad, and thank you! OgasawaraSachiko (talk) 11:14, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Eh, if you don't mind, I've just restored the article of Akiha Tohno as I believe she is one of the main heroin in Tsukihime. If it doesn't suit you, please clean it up if you want to. OgasawaraSachiko (talk) 16:10, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Article importance is an assessment of a topic's importance in understanding a specific higher level topic. Assessments are maintained by WikiProjects and reflect the project's view of what is essential to understanding their scope. In the VG Project's case, all importance scales are in terms of understanding video games.
Recent discussions at the VG Project's talk page have called for revisions to the practice of assigning article importance. The discussion began in mid-November with the goal of clarifying what level of importance should be assigned to certain type of articles. It eventually expanded to creating a standardized table of importance to serve as a guide for current and future editors.
The discussion has focused on and shifted to several topics including flaws of previous practices, new ways to view assessment, other project practices to emulate, and specific articles which are exceptions to proposed guidelines. A brief pole and discussion determined most editors felt that the bulk of some topics—specifically individual video game, series, and character articles—were not essential to understanding video games, making them ineligible for top importance. The discussion then shifted to tweaking the wording and layout of the table.
The current proposed table is being discussed on the project's talk page, and the issue of whether some topics—specifically character articles—should be allowed to be rated importance has also been brought up. As always, member are encouraged to voice their opinions and engage in discussion to determine consensus so the new assessment scale can be implemented.

Hey, I just noticed you put Minax (Ultima) up for deletion. I spent some time a while back cleaning up some Ultima characters—if you're interested, there's a big job with The Companions of the Avatar, List of Ultima characters, and List of characters based on developers in Ultima series that need some attention, and potenially Avatar (Ultima) as well. Let me know if you feel like working on it and maybe we can tackle it together. At a bare minimum, the list based on developers needs to be merged into a character list (and referenced if possible), but the current structure of these articles needs to be rethought. List of Ultima characters is really just a couple of tables. Why you merged Lilith from Darkstalkers to the minor characters article? I don't think she's a minor character, since she appeared in almost every Darkstalkers games and others from Capcom. I would leave Morrigan, Lilith, Demitri, Hsien-Ko, Felicia and Baby Bonnie Hood because they are the only prominent characters that appeared in other media, such as anime, manga an videogames, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.139.122.85 (talk) 19:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-06T19:04:00.000Z","author":"190.139.122.85","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-190.139.122.85-2008-12-06T19:04:00.000Z-Ultima_characters","replies":[]}}-->

Thanks for uploading File:Kungfuman.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Articles on other wikis are usually more in-depth as Wikipedia's policies are against "fancruft" and overly long plot summaries. It's the same with the Street Fighter Wiki. Some of the character articles are small here on Wikipedia because the info that could be added shouldn't be as it's too "fancruft-y", so the Street Fighter Wiki is the best place for all this information as that wiki will hold as much info as possible about the series. But you are right about the advertising; the main reason why I'm adding the links is so that more people will come to the Street Fighter wiki, and the best place to do this is on Wikipedia where people already know wiki-code, making them the best users to attract. However, I am using Template:Wikia as it is supposed to be used.--Richard (Talk - Contribs) 21:51, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-23T21:51:00.000Z","author":"Richard1990","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Richard1990-2008-12-23T21:51:00.000Z-Wikia_articles","replies":[],"displayName":"Richard"}}-->
Hi, KFM, don't mean to bother you but I noticed that you've made 31 consecutive edits in the Reptile article. If you're not doing so already, you might want to start using the preview button and do everything in one fell swoop (or two) rather than performing dozens of niggling edits and therefore jumbling the edit history. Also, I greatly appreciate that you're trying your darndest to improve the article, but you're going overboard a little by overhauling the sections/subsections and padding them with numerous odds and ends to the already sufficient content that you'd added earlier prior to all your recent edits. By no means am I blowing off your work, but in the end it's a fictional video game character and not a historical figure or event. sixtynine• spill it •00:08, 25 December 2008 (UTC)Rep[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-25T00:08:00.000Z","author":"Beemer69","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Beemer69-2008-12-25T00:08:00.000Z-Editing_Reptile","replies":["c-Beemer69-2008-12-26T08:38:00.000Z-Beemer69-2008-12-25T00:08:00.000Z"],"displayName":"sixtynine"}}-->

Hi. I note you reinserted a couple of ASIN codes on Reptile (Mortal Kombat). I'm not sure who told you they were useful, but I fear there may have been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line.
The ASIN code is solely an internal catalogue identifier used by Amazon, and exists only on their website and a few sites that pull data from them. It does sort of confirm the book/DVD/CD exists, but not in a very helpful way - it confirms that Amazon have or had a sales listing for an item, but not that that has ever been checked. I certainly know of cases where Amazon have listed books that were never published, or with vastly inaccurate publication details, in their system - I wouldn't be surprised if this applies to DVDs as well. In any case, you'd have to input the ASIN to the Amazon db to get the result, and you'd get just as easy a response putting the title and other details in! So it doesn't really bring much benefit to keep it.
The main problem with using ASINs is that... well, they're proprietary. We wouldn't accept a link to a single specific commercial sales site to confirm that something exists, so why do we give a reference identifier which is only usable with that one retailer? It has some slightly worrying neutrality implications, when you think about it...
Hope this explains why I removed them! Shimgray | talk | 23:41, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-28T23:41:00.000Z","author":"Shimgray","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Shimgray-2008-12-28T23:41:00.000Z-ASINs_(some_general_notes)","replies":["c-Shimgray-2008-12-28T23:50:00.000Z-Shimgray-2008-12-28T23:41:00.000Z"]}}-->
No problem. If you're wanting a non-ISBN identifier for a book, then you can get a unique edition identifier (ie, equivalent to an ISBN) by using a LCCN or an OCLC number, both of which are handily retailer-independent - but remembering the full publisher and date is definitely more important! Shimgray | talk | 23:50, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-28T23:50:00.000Z","author":"Shimgray","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Shimgray-2008-12-28T23:50:00.000Z-Shimgray-2008-12-28T23:41:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
No problem, KFM. I probably should have done that before axing the picture, but often I've seen non-fair use pictures disposed of fairly quickly by established editors. After I explained earlier this afternoon in the edit summary why the pic was removed, Tinton (sp?) reverted it a short time later with a cryptic comment saying "That's from the TV series." I asked him what it meant, but never heard back and I didn't want to get into a Ping-Pong match with him over the image and risk an edit war. Sorry for any confusion. (On an OT note, I didn't know we had the option of including DVD caps in articles.) sixtynine• spill it •04:55, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-29T04:55:00.000Z","author":"Beemer69","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Beemer69-2008-12-29T04:55:00.000Z-ASINs_(some_general_notes)","replies":["c-Beemer69-2008-12-29T05:27:00.000Z-Beemer69-2008-12-29T04:55:00.000Z"],"displayName":"sixtynine"}}-->

Thanks for uploading Image:Alleyway-balls.PNG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. I'm sorry to be the one to inform you, but your referenced translation is not accurate. Referencing inaccurate material defeats the entire purpose of referencing information to begin with. Do you understand how these guidelines work? Citations are necessary in order to establish known facts about something -- not speculations or editor opinions. (for instance, with translations -- referencing a third-party translation does not make this translation an official fact) I will thank you not to keep putting it back. Alternatively, you could try a dictionary translation or professional translation service, though I don't see the necessity of referencing such material anyway. 74.242.123.2 (talk) 22:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-06T22:36:00.000Z","author":"74.242.123.2","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:36:00.000Z-Stop_re-adding_inaccurate_references_to_the_Final_Fantasy_Legend_article","replies":["c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:46:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:36:00.000Z"]}}-->
If you don't mind, I'm going to keep this discuss here on your talk page, since I'm behind a dynamic IP. (when my PPPoE connection resets, the discussion will no longer be available to me)
I've looked over the reference you added, but it's not official. The album was never released outside of Japan, and thus the title is in Japanese. The website offering the soundtrack adds their own translation of the album's contents. This is by now means official. Even if this were the official album translation, I really don't see how this reflects on the game, which is already in English under a different title. The purpose of adding a translation of the Japanese title is to present a literal model of what's listed there -- not an interpretation or "loose" translation, as you would call it. I'm sure you can understand where I'm getting with this. 74.242.123.2 (talk) 22:46, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-06T22:46:00.000Z","author":"74.242.123.2","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:46:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:36:00.000Z","replies":["c-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:00:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:46:00.000Z"]}}-->
Um, I'll trust that the official album (and to note, the same title used on the smaller selections on other albums from the title) lot more readily, thank you. Look at the talk page: there are several "proposed" translations for that article. So there isn't something people are absolutely agreeing on for fan translations.
I've been around this book five, six times now, always by anon IPs. The VG project finds the source reliable, the guy in charge of the project's official Source handling noted it was reliable, that's more than enough for the page. I'm really not interested in arguing this further. Unless you bring up a source from Squaresoft/Square Enix that says differently I think we're done here. Further prods at the page will just result in me pushing for protection for it.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-06T23:00:00.000Z","author":"Kung Fu Man","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:00:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T22:46:00.000Z","replies":["c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T23:05:00.000Z-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:00:00.000Z"]}}-->
But your reference isn't accurate, or official. That's a problem. You can't pull up a random webpage and call it infalliable.
Let me help you with this.
魔界塔士
Okay, you have 塔 and 士 which are "toushi" in romaji. 塔 tou means tower, and 士 shi means warrior, so together they make "tower warrior." (or warrior(s), but plurality is not always made clear in Japanese, so that doesn't matter here) Now we have 魔界 makai, which is the Japanese world for Hell, or the world of demons. So overall we have "tower warrior (of) Hell." (or you can also say "Hell tower warrior") You can add "of" and "of the" if you like, since those don't necessarily have to be elaborated upon in Japanese here. (and would probably be added in professional translations, for instance)
Hope that helps. That is your best bet for an accurate translation. 74.242.123.2 (talk) 23:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-06T23:05:00.000Z","author":"74.242.123.2","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T23:05:00.000Z-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:00:00.000Z","replies":["c-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:11:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T23:05:00.000Z"]}}-->
Are you ever paying attention? The resource is considered a primary source. It means from the people, company, and so forth behind a game. It's official. It's stated to be official. If it's not accurate to one's translation of Japanese that's how the cookie crumbles: the rules state to cite an official translation, even if inaccurate, over a fan translation (which, no offense meant again, what you're doing here is). Even you're not certain of the exact translation of the text, you're simply offering your own idea based on literal translations of the symbols on what it should be.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-01-06T23:11:00.000Z","author":"Kung Fu Man","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:11:00.000Z-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T23:05:00.000Z","replies":["c-74.242.123.2-2009-01-06T23:19:00.000Z-Kung_Fu_Man-2009-01-06T23:11:00.000Z"]}}-->
It's not a primary source. The website isn't affiliated with the company in any manner at all. You should know this. My translation is an extrapolation from my native-level Japanese that's more accurate than the one you provided. I regularly tend to the Japanese version of this page and similar pages on the SaGa series. I'm hoping to help with some of the content here, since this is a Japanese video game.

Feature: Video game notability
Video game related articles fall under niche categories on Wikipedia: "Culture and the arts" and "Everyday life". Because of this, they are often required to demonstrate notability more than other topics. Wikipedia defines notability as "worthy of notice", and considers it distinct from fame, importance, and popularity. Though it is acknowledge to be related to fame and the like, it is important understand that being famous, important, or popular does not mean a video game article should be on Wikipedia.
Being notable means that a topic has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Wikipedia's policy also stipulates that this only presumes to "satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." This means that though an article may meet the criteria on paper, it is up to the community to decide if a topic truly is notable and/or violates other policies such as WP:NOT. In short, just because a video game, character, or related topic exists, does not mean it should also exist as a Wikipedia article.
Dealing with non-notable topics
Articles that do not meet the criteria are either deleted or merged into a relevant topic.
WP:Articles for deletion (AfD) handles the deletion of non-notable articles, among other types, and has an established process to begin discussions about reasons for deletion.
If an article is a subarticle of a larger topic, merging it into the larger topic article is a more desirable action. For example, the main character of a video may not be notable, but has received some mentions in reviews. It would benefit both topics, the character and its video game, to include the content into the article of the video game; essentially using a small, weaker article to strengthen a larger more notable article.
Things to remember
The best way to show notability is to provide reliable sources about the topic.
Notability is less about keeping articles out of Wikipedia and more about making sure readers are provided articles about significant, quality topics.
While you may think a topic is notable, others may disagree. Try to keep a clear perspective when assessing notability so discussions can reach a consensus.
AfD is more of a last resort and is not always the best course of action to take.
Consider starting a merger discussion first, as some editors may not fully understand why an article they started is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Hey there! I notice you've been hard at work improving Minsc, which is a good thing. Some of us have been working on improving Drizzt Do'Urden in a similar manner.
I'm curious about Minsc though, as he's the only BG character that still has a separate article. What is it about him that makes him so special? ;) Seriously though, he gets a lot of hits every month. I've been watching that article, and it got 3288 in November, and 4381 in December, and he's already got 1324 so far this month. That definitely seems to be on the high side for a fictional character.
So what is it about him that makes him get so many hits, and makes him worthy of his own article when the others don't currently have one? I'm not advocating him to not have his own article, especially with the improvements you have been making, I'm just trying to assess the potential for characters like him. Should more of them have their own articles again, if you are able to improve them with reliable sources as well? I'm not familiar with the game, so I have no clue which characters are important. I've been on a Wikibreak, and didn't notice it there, or I would have removed it - a year or so ago some yahoo tried to say that The Later Years was notable. Its popularity is not even on the level of Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series and we all know that series' fate on Wikipedia. My apologies. This issue we are trying a new type of newsletter feature: "Featured editor". This is a chance to learn more about the various editors who contribute to the Video games project as well as the roles they fill. If you enjoyed this new feature and would like to see similar interviews in future issues, please drop us a note at the VG newsletter talk page.
David Fuchs (also known as Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs), is a long time video games editor that has written a large number of the project's Featured articles. He has been ranked high on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations, and has assisted in reviewing and editing more many. Recently David has begun to assist with image reviews for Featured article candidates, and branched out into other types of articles in addition to video games. He can normally been seen on the project's talk page offering advice and his input on the various discussion taking place there.
What drew you to Wikipedia, and what prompted you to begin editing?
I got involved due in part to (I believe, my memory is fuzzy) finding the site while doing research for Advanced Placement Europen History during high school. My earliest contributions (in December 2005) were creating topics based on what I learned, as well as creating an article for my high school with another friend. I soon became involved with editing topics related to Halo video game franchise, specifically the article on the parasitic Flood.
What got you involved in writing Featured articles?
I think for most editors it's a shiny accomplishment you are striving for, and natural for most editors to try and get an FA. I first nominated an article for FA in 2007, after about a year of inactivity onwiki; it didn't pass as it was poorly written and didn't follow our guidelines for writing about fiction; I also took a couple of tries to get my first video game FA (Halo 2).
What article(s) are you most proud of writing or exemplifies your best work?
I suppose Myst is a sort of accomplishment I can point to; I started work on the article on May 2 2008, when it looked like this, and submitted it to Featured Article Candidates one day later. I think that's some kind of record, but I dunno. In terms of being a good read or something I'm very happy with, however, I'd have to look at my more recent work, specifically Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Bone Wars.
How do you pick the articles you work on?
Whatever hits me. There's many articles I haven't gotten around to editing and improving as planned because another article has caught my fancy.
What advice would you give to editors seeking to write quality articles?
In the words of one of my favorite cartoon characters when I was a child, "We must do reeea-search!" Even in video games, online sources don't usually cut it. Even after getting an article to FA, make sure you continually trawl the internet and elsewhere for more information to add to the topic.

After having just nominated Duck Hunt for GAR and watching a YouTube playthrough of Crystalis, I don't think this meets GA criteria either (Even though I love this game very much). What do you think? Well, it should link to the Mario theme article, and maybe discuss it a little more. And in the creation section, what does "Miyamoto developed Mario's in mind"? Is that just a typo? And maybe there could be a subsection in Appearances for his roles in other media?
The VG Project Collaboration of the Week is a new effort to improve important video game articles of low quality. Every week, an article is random selected by AnomieBOT from the Stub-, Start-, and C-class categories that are rated either High- or Top-importance. Such topics can offer a reader a good deal of encyclopedic information about video games, but are often too underdeveloped or lacking the proper level of writing and sourcing to accomplish this.
All editors are welcome and encouraged to participate by offering their insights and suggestions. Having a pool of different editors, both old and new, will help maximize improvements to the articles as well as our editing skills.
History
Collaborative efforts have come and gone within the VG project several times before. The first such effort, the "Gaming collaboration of the week", began in October 2004 as a result of the several otherweekly collaborations popping up on Wikipedia. It proved to be quite successful at improving articles to meet Wikipedia's standard at the time, but the effort eventually saw less and less participation. A second effort, the "Improvement Drive", began in August 2005 with the intent of improving articles to FA-quality. However, few nominations and articles were selected. The decline in participation in the collaborations and peer reviews resulted in a third effort. It began in February 2006 as a workshop, but never got off the ground.
Numerous discussions have taken place on at WT:VG to jump start collaborations and improve the process to prevent its decline again. While previous collaborations selected any video game article, most editors felt focus should be on video game topics more encyclopedic in nature—topics that are also generally in poor shape because of lack of attention. A common problem mentioned was that previous nomination processes were lengthy and hindered participation. The current idea to automate the process was brought up by JohnnyMrNinja, which was further discussed to iron out the details.
Current collaboration
The current collaborative efforts began in mid-January 2009, and several articles have been improved by editors. The random choice is intended to minimize the selection process, which allows editors to focus on article improvement. Improvements include better organization of content, massaging and copy editing the prose, removing excess non-free images, and much more. The random choice is also meant to encourage participation from editors of varying interest and help prevent burnout. If the present selection is not to your liking, wait until next week. Editors are encouraged to add Template:Collab-gaming to their watchlist to see which article is selected. Recently selected articles are:

Hey Kung Fu Man, how's it going? I noticed your A-class nomination of Super Mario Bros. 3. Should we go through the backlog of A-class requests on the assessments page and formally nominate the rest of them?

I am currently gauging the active membership of the Nintendo task force. I have split the members list into an "active list" and an "inactive list" and have moved all members (except myself) to the "inactive list". To confirm that you're still an active participant in the task force, please go to the membership list at WP:NIN and simply move your name from the "inactive list" back onto the "active list". If you no longer wish to be a member, simply remove your name from the list. After two weeks (around 23 March 2009), I will remove all names on the inactive list. Thank you, and hope you're still interested, MuZemike20:26, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-03-09T20:26:00.000Z","author":"MuZemike","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-MuZemike-2009-03-09T20:26:00.000Z-Nintendo_task_force_membership_update","replies":[]}}-->
About Greg we cannot use his Marvel arts because we don't have permission from Marvel itself. The characters belongs to Marvel not Greg. But if Marvel allows us to use it's images we can use Greg's artworks because he agreed too. And all permissions you got you must redirect you conversations emails about it to [email protected]. And contact someone who is an OTRS volunteer to check it. Thank you for assessing the article (UKeSA). I would like a little more information regarding on how improve the article. It says on the Quality Scale (Start-class) that:
"An article that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources."
What would be an adequate reliable source and would it be possible to give an example as to the weak points in the article? I see you have deleted all but three of the separate Dead or Alive character pages a couple of months ago. May I ask why exactly? In the edit history you state WP:N as the reason, but what makes the DoA characters any less notable that those of Mortal Kombat for example? I agree that not all articles were of equal quality, but some of the recurring characters like Hayate or Ayane have deep storylines which are barely explained in the short character blurb that remains in the list. In fact Hayate's background is not explained at all! I really feel at least some separate articles should be brought back.
