Did you know that you can review your changes visually?
When you are finished editing the page, type your edit summary and then choose "Review your changes".
In visual mode, you will see additions, removals, new links, and formatting highlighted. Other changes, such as changing the size of an image, are described in notes on the side.
Click the toggle button to switch between visual and wikitext diffs.
The wikitext diff is the same diff tool that is used in the wikitext editors and in the page history.
You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.
A new wikitext editing mode is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. The 2017 wikitext editor has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. Go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures to enable the ⧼Visualeditor-preference-newwikitexteditor-label⧽.
A new visual diff tool is available in VisualEditor's visual mode. You can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. More features will be added to this later. In the future, this tool may be integrated into other MediaWiki components. [1]
You can now use your web browser's function to switch typing direction in the new wikitext mode. This is particularly helpful for RTL language users like Urdu or Hebrew who have to write JavaScript or CSS. You can use Command+Shift+X or Control+Shift+X to trigger this. [3]
The way to switch between the visual editing mode and the wikitext editing mode is now consistent. There is a drop-down menu that shows the two options. This is now the same in desktop and mobile web editing, and inside things that embed editing, such as Flow. [4]
The Categories item has been moved to the top of the Page options menu (from clicking on the icon) for quicker access. [5] There is also now a "Templates used on this page" feature there. [6]
You can now create <chem> tags (sometimes used as <ce>) for chemical formulas inside the visual editor. [7]
Tables can be set as collapsed or un-collapsed. [8]
The Special character menu now includes characters for Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics and angle quotation marks (‹› and ⟨⟩) . The team thanks the volunteer developer, Tpt. [9]
A bug caused some section edit conflicts to blank the rest of the page. This has been fixed. The team are sorry for the disruption. [10]
There is a new keyboard shortcut for citations: Control+Shift+K on a PC, or Command+Shift+K on a Mac. It is based on the keyboard shortcut for making links, which is Control+K on a PC or Command+K on a Mac. [11]
Future changes
The VisualEditor team is working with the Community Tech team on a syntax highlighting tool. It will highlight matching pairs of <ref> tags and other types of wikitext syntax. You will be able to turn it on and off. It will first become available in VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode, maybe late in 2017. [12]
The kind of button used to Show preview, Show changes, and finish an edit will change in all WMF-supported wikitext editors. The new buttons will use OOjs UI. The buttons will be larger, brighter, and easier to read. The labels will remain the same. You can test the new button by editing a page and adding &ooui=1 to the end of the URL, like this: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Sandbox?action=edit&ooui=1 The old appearance will no longer be possible, even with local CSS changes. [13]

The AfD for Cobra (programming language) was in 2006, and was for a completely different article on a completely different computer language, Cobra (programming language from Squeaky Duck). At that time, the article you tagged lived at Cobra (programming language from Cobra Language LLC). After the Squeaky Duck language's article was deleted, there was no need to disambiguate further than "(computer language)", so the Cobra Language LLC article was moved, in 2011. The 2006 AfD does not apply to this article, which wasn't at this name until five years later.
On Alice (programming language): Yes, there was an AfD, and it ended in delete, but it didn't stop there. It went on to Deletion Review and the deletion was overturned. If you're going to note the AfD, you have to note the DRV as well.
In general, if you see an article that seems to have been deleted at AfD, but is still around, there's likely a good reason for that; do a little digging to see if there's some factor you haven't considered, and take the results into account when determining whether, and how, to mark the AfD. @Jarble: Unfortunately, many sites move links around, and appealing to the site operator to revert to those earlier links is probably unlikely to be successful. In the case of "worldnews.nbcnews.com", there was an apparently incorrect redirect (still waiting for a response from them, but I haven't lost hope). When sites do move a page, I think it's preferable to update to a live link on the same website (or at least a site managed by the same entity). The google "site:" search parameter usually makes it easy to find the new url that the link has moved to, but this doesn't avoid the need to modify each page for which the link has changed. Hi, I'm not a sockpuppet. This is my work account for Wiki Education, so it falls under the acceptable reasons for me to have an alt account. My main account is also listed on my profile page and my alternate accounts are listed on my main account's userpage as well, so everything is kosher.
The reason I marked the page with those tags is because it needed improvement - it was one of several pages that had been edited by one of the classes supported by WikiEd. One of the students that edited this page added content that could be helpful, however it was written like a personal reflection essay or academic paper. Rather than write the content in a neutral, encyclopedic tone, they wrote it in a style intended to persuade the reader to see things from their point of view and looked to have included some mild original research as well. (On a side note they also name dropped studies but didn't give the full names of the researchers, something that's not entirely helpful since the researchers' names are fairly common ones and it makes it harder to link to their articles if they have one.) They also had some issues with sourcing, as they tried to source their additions to things like Wikipedia itself. It's mostly stuff that would've been perfectly fine in something they were writing for class (minus using Wikipedia as a source - I don't know any teachers would be OK with that), but not so good for Wikipedia. A look at the page shows that the overall article needs to get a facelift. It's not that the information in the page or the information added by the student is particularly wrong, just that it needs to be re-tooled to fit Wikipedia's MoS. Don't tag them, fix them. These are links to the New York Observer, which has obviously changed its URL system. @Beyond My Ken: I'd prefer to keep these cleanup tags for future reference so that they won't be overlooked. There are hundreds of links that may need to be updated, so it would be very tedious to update all of them manually. It might be worthwhile to discuss this at WP:Bot requests. Hi, I removed a link you added to Red light camera. Well, the paper itself might be reliable, but from a cybersecurity perspective it's bad practice to send people to material on anonymous websites. No one savvy about such things would click a link with a URL like that. If the website were intended to be accessed by the general public, it ought to have an identifiable name. I guess there isn't a Wikipedia guideline on this, but a sense of caution compelled me to take it off until I had at least discussed it with you. Hello, Jarble. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Did you know that you can now use the visual diff tool on any page?
Sometimes, it is hard to see important changes in a wikitext diff. This screenshot of a wikitext diff (click to enlarge) shows that the paragraphs have been rearranged, but it does not highlight the removal of a word or the addition of a new sentence.
If you enable the Beta Feature for "⧼visualeditor-preference-visualdiffpage-label⧽", you will have a new option. It will give you a new box at the top of every diff page. This box will let you choose either diff system on any edit.
Click the toggle button to switch between visual and wikitext diffs.
In the visual diff, additions, removals, new links, and formatting changes will be highlighted. Other changes, such as changing the size of an image, are described in notes on the side.
This screenshot shows the same edit as the wikitext diff. The visual diff highlights the removal of one word and the addition of a new sentence. An arrow indicates that the paragraph changed location.
You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.
The 2017 wikitext editor is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. It has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. The team have been comparing the performance of different editing environments. They have studied how long it takes to open the page and start typing. The study uses data for more than one million edits during December and January. Some changes have been made to improve the speed of the 2017 wikitext editor and the visual editor. Recently, the 2017 wikitext editor opened fastest for most edits, and the 2010 WikiEditor was fastest for some edits. More information will be posted at mw:Contributors/Projects/Editing performance.
The visual diff tool was developed for the visual editor. It is now available to all users of the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. When you review your changes, you can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. You can also enable the new Beta Feature for "Visual diffs". The Beta Feature lets you use the visual diff tool to view other people's edits on page histories and Special:RecentChanges. [15]
The citoid service automatically translates URLs, DOIs, ISBNs, and PubMed id numbers into wikitext citation templates. This tool has been used at the English Wikipedia for a long time. It is very popular and useful to editors, although it can be tricky for admins to set up. Other wikis can have this service, too. Please read the instructions. You can ask the team to help you enable citoid at your wiki.
Wikibooks, Wikiversity, and other communities may have the visual editor made available by default to contributors. If your community wants this, then please contact Dan Garry.
The <references /> block can automatically display long lists of references in columns on wide screens. This makes footnotes easier to read. This has already been enabled at the English Wikipedia. If you want columns for a long list of footnotes on this wiki, you can use either <references /> or the plain (no parameters) {{reflist}} template. If you edit a different wiki, you can request multi-column support for your wiki. [17]

Hi Jarble, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Dear Jarble,
I've designed a user script to modify search results for users like you.
It includes toggles (menu items) for hiding/showing the details, and hiding/showing sister project results, and hiding/showing those annoying redirecteds & category-based results.
By turning those 3 features off, you get more focused search results one-per-line in a single-spaced list.
It also has a menu item to turn sorting of the list on/off. That's right, you can have alphabetically sorted search results.
And last but not least, there's a menu item to turn wikification on/off. That is, it can add * [[]] list item formatting to the results for easy copying/pasting into an edit window.
Besides the menu items mentioned above, the script also includes a workaround for WP search's intitle bug. So, if you use intitle:"search string" in your search, this script will strip out all results that do not have that search string in the title.
If none of this makes any sense, just install the script and a few minutes of tinkering with it will make things crystal clear.
But first...
So, with this script, you could get search results that look like this right on the screen:
Your eyes do not deceive you. Those are live links surrounded by list item wikiformatting codes.
Such lists are highly useful when copied to a sandbox and then accessed with AWB's make list feature. You can use AWB's preprocessing feature to strip out the pages that don't have a history section. Then you change the links to "History of the automotive industry in", using WikEd and its search/replace feature. And then you use AWB to create those redirect pages.
Have fun. — The Transhumanist11:02, 5 March 2018 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2018-03-05T11:02:00.000Z","author":"The Transhumanist","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-The_Transhumanist-2018-03-05T11:02:00.000Z-You_might_find_this_useful","replies":[]}}-->
Hi, it appears that you tried to create a redirect at Spanish loanwords in Tagalog, but didn't do it correctly. I've fixed it now. For future reference, the correct redirect syntax is:

Well that is a really weird redirect. It was originally to the Beneficial Bank, apparently taken over by HSBC; but "Beneficial" is just an adjective, and it could point to Beneficial ownership, - weed, -organism, -Corporation, -insects, -interest, -use, etc etc. I can't see any reason why, unqualified as it is, it should particularly point to insects. Hello, I would like to split Economic inequality. According to this link the article is 202 kB and WP:SIZESPLIT suggests an article be split after 40 kB. Also, on the top of the page is a banner that is two years old suggesting the article should be split.
Since I am new, I would like to build a consensus first, rather than WP:BRD. To that end, I put a post on Talk:Economic_inequality and am contacting everyone who has edited the page in the past month.

Hello, Jarble. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, those edits were before I gave the final warning - I just came across them some time after they were done. If you look I had reverted those two other issues. Hopefully they have got the message, if not next time they will be blocked. Hey, newbie question. I saw this edit [19] on depth of field and I was a bit confused - it seems to be about measuring sharpness rather than using depth of field directly - I wondered if you could give me a bit of a pointer as why you put in there rather than, say, focus? @Joereddington: I cited this article, which describes a method for generating depth maps by focusing and defocusing multiple images. This method is similar to focus stacking, which is also described in the depth of field article. The Focus (optics) article is still only a stub. It describes the focal point of a lens, but it doesn't describe defocus aberration or sharpness of images. I can see your point - particularly given the similarity of methods - but the *purpose* of focus stacking is (ish) to increase DoF - whereas the purpose of that method isn't related to DoF - does that make sense?
