Your DYK hook about "noted controversialist" Mary Aldis and her opposition to firing a woman from a cannon received 10,269 page views (856 per hour) while on the Main Page. It is the one of most viewed hooks during the month of February and has thus earned a place on the February stats list. Keep up the great work! Hey Ms Dr Thneed - your Wiki-work is admirable. I do hope it will endure - For how long will there be interested parties to study it, despite the collapsing of our unsustainable culture? (Am I overly pessimistic??)
I'm a nephew of Paddy Bassett (and of Mary who married Robin Williams, Bridget's parents). Paddy encouraged me to apply my physics training to biology which became the field of study for my career in science research. Now retired.
For indefatigable work on New Zealand pages. Thanks for helping push this sisyphean rock of an encyclopaedia uphill! PS - am I right in thinking you're a fellow Dunedinite? On 12 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Anne Wyllie, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Anne Wyllie(pictured), also known as the "Spit Queen", now has a Wikipedia biography because a healthcare executive asked who she was? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anne Wyllie. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Anne Wyllie), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

It's even better than that, theleekycauldron. I've looked through last year's DYK archive and it was the non-lead hook with the highest hourly views for 2021. That is an outstanding result! It beat other non-picture hooks with saucy page titles like Napoleon's penis or Best Sex I've Ever Had. It also beat the absolute stunner of a hook that was used for Pronunciation of GIF (which you authored, didn't you?). Well done, DrThreed. Hi @[[User:DrThneed|DrThneed], Thank you for your hard work to write Wikipedia pages for Kiwi women in science. I noticed that you updated the Wikipedia page about me to include a reference to my PhD thesis. Thank you - that is really helpful. In the same edit, I notice that you added my deadname (Isuru) to the top of the text. This was pointed out to me by a colleague who did some work to help me with my personal info online. I frequently receive hate mail from those who take exception to my work on gender, race & LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity in science. Lately, I have received messages and threats of spreading my deadname amongst my work colleagues. I want to reach out to you to point out that I changed my name legally via NZ DIA to Izzy in 2018. So, including my deadname is no longer accurate. My Alma Mater, University of Auckland has refused to update their records on my qualifications unless I bring the evidence of my ID to them in person - something that I cannot easily do because I currently reside in the U.K. Can I please ask that you correct the record on Wikipedia to reflect my current legal name? Thank you for your understanding.

Kia ora Izzy, page watcher here. I can remove your deadname from the revision history of your article. To avoid confusion, it would be best if there was a reference to the 2018 name change. Does a reference exist? It doesn’t have to be online; could be a notice in a university newsletter. @IJ64sz I'm so sorry to have deadnamed you (and I'm sorry Auckland Uni are being difficult about it, so that this thesis citation is even an issue). I've just amended the thesis citation so that it doesn't display the deadname, at least. @Schwede66 will be able to do a more complete removal in the page history than I can, if you are able to find a mention somewhere that he can use to justify it. Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:
The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.
If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Hiya, I'm just letting you know I'm not sure that we can be confident Cameron will be elected. His 54-vote margin will almost certainly be eroded when special votes are counted; last election a 700+ margin was overturned. I think we should keep his bio in projectspace until we're confident about the results. Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellingtonand we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

On 22 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carol Mutch, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Dr. Disaster's office collapsed in an earthquake on this day in 2011? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Carol Mutch. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Carol Mutch), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello DrThneed!
The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Kia ora Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ) members.
We invite you to consider standing for the WANZ Committee at our AGM 22 April 2024 to help shape and influence events and decisions.
The role of Secretary will be vacant. We are also interested in succession planning for the future. Please email [email protected] for the Secretary Job Description, and the document outlining the relationship and tasks between the Secretary and the Executive Advisor position, as the Executive Advisor is now picking up day-to-day administration tasks from the Secretary.
If you would like to come along to a meeting and watch the committee in action before deciding whether to stand please reach out.
If you are interested and want to know more please contact our President Victoria Leachman by calling 021 490 329 or emailing [email protected].
Warm regards

An article you recently created, Francisco Hernandez (politician), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. User:Villian Factman saw fit to publish the article, erroneously stating that Hernandez is an MP having succeeded Shaw. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Yeah I saw they'd moved it and was a bit surprised. I haven't seen anything definitively saying Hernandez will replace Shaw or when, so I guess we wait for something to appear and then we can cite and publish the article (with whatever other edits are needed at the time). I wondered whether this note should have gone to Villian Factman instead. It was their idea to publish this. Closer to the time it's needed, we can move it back to mainspace. Kia ora, I hope you might be able to assist me. I have created a Wikidata item for a book Christchurch - Swamp to City. Christchurch - Swamp to City (Q125768136) It was written by Dr John Wilson, a Christchurch historian who appears to be notable. I expected to find a Wikipedia article or at least a Wikidata item about John Wilson. I tried a query in Wikidata, but so far my search has been unsuccessful. It doesn't help that there are a great many people in Wikidata called John Wilson. Because he is (or has been) an author and academic, I wondered if he had come up in the NZ thesis project. Here is a link to a webpage containing some information about him.[1] This source indicates he was born in 1943 [2]. Since you are so much better at these things than me, could you please have a quick search ? Many thanks, Marshelec (talk) 09:27, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240504092700","author":"Marshelec","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Marshelec-20240504092700-Looking_for_John_Wilson_MNZM","replies":[]}}-->
Hi Marshelec. I've had a look. His Canterbury thesis does not appear to be in the thesis project data. I think this is likely his Harvard thesis though https://id.lib.harvard.edu/alma/990040114010203941/catalog I don't have any Canterbury theses supervised by a John Wilson.
VIAF have unfortunately got his record conflated with a British fishing writer John Wilson who was also born 1943 but who died in 2018 (https://viaf.org/viaf/93591094/#Wilson,_John,_1943-....). The April birth date might or might not be our Wilson (I saw it referenced in a NZ library record but as they might have got it from VIAF rather than the other way round I would ignore it without confirmation from a source that couldn't have come from VIAF). Interestingly one of the VIAF aliases is John Malcolm Wilson - which is his full name, according to his 2007 MNZM (see the list here) I found a photo of him here https://teara.govt.nz/en/community-contribution/44927/john-wilson-te-ara-writer-2007
So I don't think he is in Wikidata yet, but you have plenty there to make a new record. I would make the label John Malcolm Wilson, so you can easily find it again, and add appropriate aliases etc. It would be worth contacting VIAF and asking them to split out John Malcolm Wilson from the fisherman (tell them the books our John wrote) and then his VIAF can be added to his Wikidata.

Marshelec, I've had a nosey but the coverage by The Press on Wilson for the birthday honours was rather brief: "Christchurch heritage advocates Pam Wilson and Dr John Wilson are not related, but have both been made members of the order. Pam Wilson promoted conservation of significant sites and buildings with the Historic Places Trust for 25 years and remains an adviser on building registration. John Wilson has raised awareness of heritage with his research and writing on historic buildings and places for more than 30 years." Also, I shall note that Wilson "was born and grew up in South Canterbury" according to his Te Ara profile. VIAF has a 12 April 1943 birthdate. We have a birth notice in the Timaru Herald for that date: "Wilson – On April 12, 1943, at Timaru Hospital, to Rev. and Mrs M. W. Wilson, a son." I'd say that 12 April 1943 is correct. Here is his father's obituary. Mac Wilson (as he was known) lived in Timaru from 1938 and moved to Christchurch in 1951 to be minister at Knox Church. Our historian was seven at that point. That fits the Te Ara bio. Hi Tamsin! Do you know if there's a best practice way to use the 'named after' property on Wikidata? I have a hill, Coronation Peak, likely named after the Coronation of Elizabeth II. Would it be better to point to the coronation event (Q3797766) or the person herself (Q9682)? I could see being more specific as something potentially detrimental (e.g. Coronation Peak wouldn't come up in a query of locations named after Elizabeth II). --Prosperosity (talk) 22:39, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240504223900","author":"Prosperosity","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Prosperosity-20240504223900-'Named_after'_on_Wikidata","replies":["c-DrThneed-20240504235500-Prosperosity-20240504223900"]}}-->
Hi @Prosperosity. Interesting question! I think I would argue that the peak is named after the coronation event and not the Queen, and so the way you've modelled it is correct. And if I query for everything named after QEII (https://w.wiki/9yix) then I don't find anything with coronation or jubilee in the label, which suggests to me that noone is pointing to the person rather than the event. Although there are only 90 items somehow!
The question then becomes if you were looking for things named in honour of the Queen that included her coronation, her jubilees, etc, could you find them through this modelling? The queen is listed as the only participant in her coronation (!) but not directly from the Silver Jubilee item. However there is a list of significant events on Elizabeth II (Q9682) and I would suggest people looking for items connected to the Queen would probably think to look for items connected to those events as well. It's certainly useful to be able to distinguish, I think, between items named after her and items commemorating a particular event connected to her. I note that the Silver Jubilee Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II (Q7516094) has a couple of things linked through named after (event item), and one through commemorates (event item), so this wouldn't be a new way of doing things.
If you want to tie Coronation Peak a bit more directly to QEII then you could consider adding a statement saying it commemorates QEII, I think, as that's a bit looser than named after and therefore arguably correct. There are only six (?!) items commemorating QEII currently though so it's hard to judge consistency of modelling. https://w.wiki/9yj4 It could be useful to find a bunch of other Coronation things and add similar modeling to them to make it easier for other people to find and copy that modelling. DrThneed (talk) 23:55, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240504235500","author":"DrThneed","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-DrThneed-20240504235500-Prosperosity-20240504223900","replies":["c-Prosperosity-20240505001800-DrThneed-20240504235500"]}}-->
Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. I've added a 'commemorates' field, but I feel a little uneasy about it (it feels more appropriate for something constructed with that person in mind, or even something like a tree that was planted to commemorate a person). Hi DrThneed, this is a simple one. Please guide me in creating a new Wikidata item for this report: [3] My main question is: what the most appropriate choice for: Instance of ??. As a secondary question, what label/ title would you suggest. The reason for asking is that there is a recommended citation on the page after the cover, including a title, but this is not what is on the front page, so I am left a bit confused. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks :) Marshelec (talk) 05:10, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240512051000","author":"Marshelec","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Marshelec-20240512051000-A_new_Wikidata_item_for_an_IBA_report","replies":["c-DrThneed-20240512081500-Marshelec-20240512051000"]}}-->
Hi @Marshelec. Instance of report (Q10870555) would probably be appropriate (that's a subclass of document & scientific publication). The fact they've given a different title in the suggested citation is a little odd, but I would suggest that most users would look for under the title as it is displayed on the front page, so I'd add that as the label and the value for the title property, but then add the alternative title as an alias. Please don't add any categories to your sandbox pages while they're in sandbox. Even if you're moving the page from your sandbox into mainspace, you still have to do the page move first and then add categories to it second, not vice versa, because if you do it the other way around it leaves a phantom redirect from the former userspace title sitting in the category despite its status as a redirect — if you look at this search, for example, there are 13 of your sandbox titles sitting there when there should be zero, and they're all there specifically because you added categories to the pages before moving them into mainspace instead of after.
They need to not be there, however, because it actively interferes with the important maintenance job of removing inappropriate categories from pages that are still in userspace — but the only way for me to clean them up now would be to move all the pages back to the userspace titles, disable the categories, wait until the titles finally drop from the search results (which could be up to an hour), and then move them back into mainspace again, which is not something I'm particularly keen on doing.
So in future, please do not add any categories to the pages so long as they're still in userspace. Move them to mainspace first, and then add the categories second. Thanks. Thank you, you're very kind! Thank you also for the tip. I have added Suliana Mone to Wikidata (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q129972351), where information about her can be collected. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia biographies are summaries of pre-existing independent coverage, and on that basis I think it may be a little early for Mone, as I didn't find enough information (outside of this profile) to justify an article (notability criteria for academics can be found here FYI). I don't want to create an article too soon, as that risks it being nominated for deletion and that is not a fun process, and makes creating an article later more difficult. However if you are aware of any significant coverage I might have missed or awards Mone has won, then do let me know and I'll add them to her Wikidata profile to help demonstrate notability. Kia ora DrThneed. Thank you for all the amazing work you have been doing celebrating, including creating the recent page on Annick Masselot. This has helped me a lot in creating my UC Faculty of Law page. I was wondering if you could please consider doing a profile for Lynne Taylor from the University of Canterbury. I know she is notable given she is well published (see her leading texts on Company and Insolvency Law) and also she already has a wikidata item. Thanks as always, let me know any way I can help you out too. Thanks @MitchellMatchbox you're very kind! Lynne Taylor shows up on my worklist of women professors, but unfortunately I have not found enough sources to make an article with yet. Pretty much all I've found are her university profile and a couple of mentions in the press, when what I really need are three good independent sources profiling her, or at the very least one profile and two talking about the importance of her work. It's quite possible such sources exist and I haven't found them. If you know of any more sources then do let me know (you can cite them here), I'd love to write about her! Thanks DrThneed (talk) 19:49, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240906194900","author":"DrThneed","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-DrThneed-20240906194900-MitchellMatchbox-20240906110100","replies":["c-Schwede66-20240908032700-DrThneed-20240906194900"]}}-->
I'm having a poke around and there are three academics in New Zealand of this name! Crikey. Lynne Taylor (Q125855682) (Canterbury) is a very private person indeed; there is stuff all online about her. Lynne Taylor (Q96781334) (Otago) looks more promising. And Lynne Taylor (Q92501592) (Auckland) is a curious case; her thesis lists her as Margaret Taylor (I've linked the items) but I can't check whether there's something wrongly recorded as researchspace.auckland.ac.nz appears to be down. The thesis is under the name Margaret Lynne Taylor but from her pubs it must be her. Are you going to link her on Mixnmatch or should I? I went through her list of publications on her uni website as I thought that for such a recent thesis, she would list it, and there it was. Dr Thneed, I would like to thank you for the work you are doing for Women in Red, which has led to my inclusion in Wikipedia. I see I am part of your Academic women a day project.
I keep a vague eye on my web presence but on this occasion my husband exclaimed with delight "You are on Wikipedia". My "article" is mostly correct although could be somewhat massaged.
I took great pleasure in reading who else you had written on, many of whom are friends and colleagues.
So, i just wanted to let you know your work is noticed and appreciated.
Warmly
Professor Rebecca Grainger 139.80.239.101 (talk) 04:58, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240911045800","author":"139.80.239.101","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-139.80.239.101-20240911045800-Thank_you_-_made_my_day","replies":["c-DrThneed-20240912040000-139.80.239.101-20240911045800"]}}-->
Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for your kind words. They made my day too! I always view the pages I write as being a starting point, and ripe for improvement by other Wikipedia editors. It can be tricky piecing a page together from publicly available sources! If there are outright mistakes feel free to let me know. You might also like to know that another way to fix things or get new information added (next time you win an award, for instance!) would be to post a brief message on the 'talk page' that sits behind the page, with a publicly available source if you can.
Note you could also have an image on your page if you like! If you have a nice selfie you can upload it yourself at Wikimedia Commons, or if you want to use a photo that someone else took you will need them to upload it (it needs to be the person that took the photo that uploads it, or else it will just end up getting deleted). Cheers, DrThneed (talk) 04:00, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240912040000","author":"DrThneed","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-DrThneed-20240912040000-139.80.239.101-20240911045800","replies":[]}}-->

Saturday 21 September 2024 Walking Tour and Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
We‘re please to welcome the Wikipedia Walking Tour and Edit-a-thon for 2024. The two-part event will be running over two days, the walking tour on Saturday (for photos) and the edit-a-thon on Sunday.
This is a continuation from past edit-a-thons increase articles about women and non-binary people who work in architecture and related fields in or from Aotearoa New Zealand.
Please feel free to sign up to the dash board and contribute remotely, or attend in person if you are in Auckland - we appreciate all contributions.
I've had a look and added a wee bit, but even a ProQuest search doesn't turn up anything else. Academics shouldn't be allowed to be so media-shy! Thanks @Schwede66 As public orator I doubt she was shy, I think she just falls in that difficult area of all the sources being either offline or having been online but disappeared. Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page.
