Hello, Contrablue:
I noticed you edited the Nurse Practitioner article, specifically, "replaced overly jargonian pharmacologic agents and treatments" with the direct and truthful term 'drugs.' I am the person who initially wrote "pharmacologic agents and treatments" and I thought I would explain my reasoning: as a Family Nurse Practitioner (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner is my legal title in my state, Pennsylvania), per my state's RN Law/CRNP Rules & Regulations promulgated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing (BON), applicable to CRNPs who also hold a Prescriptive Authority license through the state BON (in addition to active, in-good-standing RN and CRNP licensures), as defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Code, Chapter 21.--State Board of Nursing, Subchapter C-21.251.--Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners, Section §21.284.--Prescribing and Dispensing Parameters ([1], also revised Dec. 12, 2009 to expand the Scope of Practice/Prescriptive Authority of CRNPs: [2]), a CRNP may prescribe: "...Anti-infective agents; Antineoplastic agents, unclassified therapeutic agents, devices and pharmaceutical aids; thrombolytic and antithrombolytic agents; Contraceptives including foams and devices; Diagnostic agents; Disinfectants for agents used on objects other than skin; Skin and mucous membrane agents..." amongst many other pharmacoactive medicines, devices and aides too numerous to list, but which can be accessed from the provided links/references.
Certainly, we prescribe "drugs," however, I thought, in my opinion, "pharmacologic agents and treatments" was a better, broader term to include other things for which we write prescriptions but aren't necessarily "drugs."
In addition to the above listed, per "Act 48 of 2007: CRNP Scope of Practice; Professional Liability Insurance for Pennsylvania CRNPs" [3], NPs may also: "...Order home health and hospice care; Order durable medical equipment; Make physical therapy and dietitian referrals; Make respiratory and occupational therapy referrals; Issue home bound schooling certifications..." and others. Commonly, when I order medical equipment (nebulizer system [compressor, mouthpiece, tubing, etc.], oxygen therapy with concentrator, regulator, cannulae, et al, Neoprene braces for the knee, lumbosacral back, wrist, etc.), order diagnostic testing such as x-ray, MRI, ECG, EEG, nerve-conduction studies, pulmonary function tests, etc., order physical and/or occupational therapy, order/refer for psychotherapy and psychological treatment, and many other treatment modalities, therapies, diagnostics, preventative measures, etc., for my patients, I write these orders as prescriptions, on my prescription pad, particularly for insurance reimbursement purposes. I'm also aware these laws only apply to NPs in Pennsylvania, and Wikipedia is an international platform, but I think you'll find, if you read the NP laws of other states as I have (though not all states), plus I have RN and NP friends in many others states, most states have similar wording and regulations within their respective state NP laws, regulations and prescriptive authority guidelines.
And so, these are the reasons and examples as to why I chose the wording "prescribe pharmacologic agents and treatments" as opposed to simply "prescribe drugs"--because as a Nurse Practitioner, I prescribe many more things than just "drugs." That being said, if you feel "prescribe drugs" is an adequate description, then of course I'm fine with leaving it worded that way. I just wanted to explain my reason(s) for my choice of words--I wasn't trying to 'jargonize'--but as you can probably tell from this message, I tend to be quite long-winded and descriptive, LOL.
Thanks for your time,
-Diane

Hi,

Please note that per WP:PROVEIT, it is up to the person adding unsourced material to find sources when the material is challenged. My own addition added information and a source about it's industrial uses. Please do not remove sources and sourced information. Your addition to the side effects section also added problematic content that really needs a medically reliable source.
