Early Life
Playwright, actress and singer-songwriter Yasmine Van Wilt was born in Orlando, Florida. Half-Quebecois, half American, she spent her early life split between Florida and Quebec.
Professional Life
Van Wilt earned her B.A. Honours, Summa Cum Laude from Eckerd College and then went on to earn her MA Distinction in Playwriting from Exeter University in the United Kingdom. She currently completes PhD at Newcastle University.
Van Wilt is best known for her theatre-work. Her writing has been described as 'hard hitting' by Art Not Oil and as 'deeply moving' by Effekt magazine. She is the founding Director of immortalis vox productions, a multi-medium performance company. Her writing has been featured in the Independent, Spoonfed, LeCool, etc She has written more than ten plays and was awarded the WordBridge playwright residency. She was also a Soho Young Writer (London). Her latest play, We're Gonna Make You Wholewas published by Oberon Books in August 2011 following the successful London run (and world première of the play). The play will tour globally in Spring and Summer 2012. Van Wilt's next play, the second in her four-part 'oil cycle' was read at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and is rumoured to be in development with a major London theatre. In late 2014 Van Wilt is touring with Unplugged, a musical disguised as a live music performance in which she plays Cajun singer songwriter Antoinette LaFontaine.
Van Wilt's first album Ex-Pat reveries was recorded with PBS but never officially released. She performed her 2007 world tour live on FYI Radio and at the Cafe de Paris, among other venues.
She now records music under the psueudonym Elle-A. Her upcoming single 'Amazing,' will be released to UK radio in late November 2011, and will shortly after-wards be released online.
