Soldo is a financial technology company headquartered in London, United Kingdom, that provides a business spend management solution. Founded in 2015, the company offers programmable corporate cards, expense management software, and financial control systems for businesses.

History

Soldo was founded in 2015 by Carlo Gualandri[1][2], an Italian businessman who previously founded Italy’s first web portal, Virgilio; Italy’s gaming platform, GiocoDigitale, which was later acquired by Bwin[3][4]; and Italy’s first fintech company, Fineco. The company developed a platform combining programmable cards with expense management tools. In 2017, Soldo received its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the UK Financial Conduct Authority.

Soldo serves around 25,000 businesses across 31 countries. In addition to its headquarters, the company also has offices in Dublin, Milan, and Rome.

Funding

In 2017, Soldo raised its first round of funding, a $11 million Series A led by Accel[5][6]. A couple of years later, it raised its Series B funding of $61 million[7][8], led by Battery Ventures and Dawn Capital, with participation from previous backers Accel and Connect Ventures, followed by its Series C funding of $180 million in 2021[9][10][11][12], led by Temasek Holdings.

Products and services

The platform’s services include company cards, expense tracking and management software, and multi-currency wallet functionality. Soldo also has integration with accounting systems, including Xero, QuickBooks, and NetSuite.

Soldo holds principal membership with Mastercard, allowing it to issue prepaid cards directly. Soldo transitioned its card operations to Mastercard following the collapse of Wirecard in 2020[13].

Additional partnerships include integrations with Amazon Business for purchase tracking, Microsoft Dynamics 365 for financial reporting, and SAP and Zucchetti for accounting processes.

In 2023, Soldo partnered with Crown Commercial Service, becoming its supplier of payment solutions for prepaid cards[14].
