Sotel is known of its richness in natural resources, like vast rice fields, verdant and fertile soil suitable for varieties of many local crops. On its northern part, Tandag River situated, it became the source of survival of many dwellers because of its potentials in inland fishing, and abundance of shells most likely the so-called bokgay and bebe before and until nowadays. In its sub-siitio called Tabo-tabon, majority of its populace were coming from San Fernando, Cebu City. The norms and mores of the old people tends to be unmindful of poverty and ignorance, they just simply engaged in inland fishing, farming and felt satisfied of what life was, as long as they can have their stomach full and can have meals three times a day. They did not mind of their education even for their children. So much for this, the school is situated in the heart of poblacion Tandag and that their was no other means of transportation except by boat Some say that these people procrastinate and arrogant and hard-headed, resistant to changes of the times, hence the chronicle “Sotel”. The name was carried on until these times. Sotel became a center of small entrepreneurs, for it was then the entry point of adjoining barangays- Barangay Maitum and Barangay Pandanon in the South, in the West, Barangay Maticdum and Barangay San Isidro. In the year 1963, Sotel was officially proclaimed being a barangay by virtue of Republic Act 3590. It was named after the incumbent President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres Manuel L. Quezon. Sotel officially called barangay QUEZON. Pedro Pagonzaga became the first appointed Teniente del Barrio, through the recommendation of Mayor Adela Serra Ty, the incumbent mayor of Tandag. The dwellers decide to choose their own patron saint and establish a chapel in the name of Sn. Antonio de Padua. The cebuhanos in sitio Tabontabon likewise establishes their own chapel by bringing Sta. Cruz de Mayo as it was their patron Saint in San Fernando, Cebu City. A couple of years after, the chapel of Sr. Sn. Jose rise that runs to a total of three chapels in the entire Barangay Quezon.
The development of this barangay dramatically changes gradually, not only in the field of economics but also in terms of education. Some interested parents decided to establish a first primary school temporarily at the residence of Mr. Macario Dua in 1956. Mrs. Lita Fernandez became the first teacher. Unexpectedly, during the first closing ceremony in the month of March 1957, a serious and fearful crime happened. A multi full stabbing was committed by just only one person that left five (5) dead and six (six) wounded. Two years later, through the initiations of Mr. Dick Senoc and Mr. Roque Ajos, through the accompaniment of the entire populace, Quezon Elementary School established. Mr. Ajos became the first head Teacher.
Barangay election came in 1968, when the higher government decided to promote the barangay leader from Teniente del Barrio to Barangay Captain. Mr. Epifanio Dedicatoria became the first elected Brgy. Captain.
A year after, the loggers from Aras-asan Timber Company and Mindanao Mahogany Corporation arrives, the construction of roads going to the concession area begun that passes adjacent barangays. Barangay Quezon became the logger’s center point where log ponds established. Since that time, the economic condition of this barangay gradually starts to grow. Barangay Quezon has its pride in the field of politics in 1987 when Amancio B. Fernandez, the incumbent Brgy Captain became the President of the Association of Barangay Councils in the municipality of Tandag, at the same time ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan. One year later, EDSA revolution cropped up. The higher authority pushes the localization or devolution of local government units. It was approved after a couple of year. The local government code of 1991 known as republic act 7160 was formally implemented in 1994 during the incumbency of Jose M. Martinez, the first barangay Captain who implemented the localization. Because of the rapid increase of school the population most likely the school age, Vicente L. Pimentel, Sr. National high School was established in early 2000, during the administration of Brgy. Captain Joselito B. Dua. The opening of the National Science High School followed in the year 2004. Currently, there are already two Secondary Schools in Barangay Quezon.
