Deir Yassin Remembered is an organization that was founded, "to do justice to the victims of the Deir Yassin Massacre." The main goal is to build a memorial at Deir Yassin and "to eliminate prejudice against Palestinians and to promote the human side of a people who have been the victims of the Zionist colonization of their land and of the apartheid conditions under which they now live."^[1]

Among Board of Advisers to the organization are Salman Abu-Sitta, Hedy Epstein, Paul Findley, Ilan Pappé, and Mordechai Vanunu. Among the directors of is Daniel A. McGowan.^[2]

Daniel McGowan organized a group of Palestinians and Jews together to serve on a board to set up a memorial to the civilians murdered by the Irgun at Deir Yassin in April 1948. The project, named Deir Yassin Remembered, set up not only to highlight the human dimension of this particular atrocity, but also the more extensive experience of exile, dispossession and death, endured by Palestinian over many decades and largely ignored in the United States. In the early stages in the 1990s, McGowan sent letters and placed calls to Elie Wiesel inviting him to sit on the board, to which Wiesel never responded. McGowan criticized him for his silence on the Palestinian issue in general and Deir Yassin in particular, contrasting it against the stance of Martin Buber, who had condemned the massacre at the time it had occurred.^[3]
