Some thoughts about proposed unionization of WMF employees


First off, I am not an expert on unionization or nonprofit governance. However, I have some questions and concerns about the proposed unionization of WMF employees that I would be curious to learn more about.

1) How would a union avoid some of the downsides of public sector unions, where salaries and benefits rise while performance stays the same or goes down?

2) How can volunteer editors and donors be assured that WMF aren't looking over at Open AI and wondering whether there is a path towards capturing value through stock options down the line through WMF's for-profit subsidiaries? Employee organizing is what reinstated Sam Altman and kept Open AI on a for-profit trajectory.

3) For editors that generally feel like the foundation is not transparent enough as it is, what can be done to make it more transparent so as to build more trust among volunteers?
