Combining painting and sculpture in contemporary art...a crazy idea or one worth pursuing? Where does painting end and sculpture begin? Should art be kept as two separate things, as in 2D or 3D,? but not a combination of the two?
Who are some contemporary artists working with both 2D and 3D elements? In Australia there are/have been several: look at works by well-known artists such as Rosalie Gascoigne, John Dahlsen, Madonna Staunton and Brett Whiteley. Less well-known practioners of this approach to art-making include Brisbane-based artist Robert Andrews. Who else is working in this manner?
