Dr. Ida Yap-Patron, EdD, PhD, is a Filipino educator, author, researcher, and government official. She currently serves as Commissioner IV - Clustered Region 8 (Regions XI & XIII) of the National Commission of Senior Citizens[1] (NCSC) in the Philippines. She is recognized for her work in education, senior citizen welfare, and academic leadership.[2]
Early life and education
Ida Yap-Patron earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics (magna cum laude) from the University of the Immaculate Conception in 2013. She also completed her Doctorate in Educational Management at the University of Mindanao in 2003. She holds a Master of Education in Language Teaching from the University of Southeastern Philippines (1997), and a Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in History and Biology from St. Michael’s College in Davao del Sur (1970).[3]
Career
Academic and administrative roles
Ida Yap-Patron has held numerous academic and administrative positions across multiple institutions:
- Chancellor and Academic Vice President, Philippine Women’s College of Davao (2016–2019)
- Vice President for Academic Affairs, PWC Davao (2015–2016)
- Planning and Development Officer, University of the Immaculate Conception (2014–2015)
- Assistant VP for Academic Affairs, PWC Davao (2009–2014)
- Dean of Tertiary Education and the School of Arts and Sciences
- Research panelist and professor at the postgraduate level at the University of Mindanao and University of the Immaculate Conception[3]
She has also served on accreditation bodies such as PAASCU and designed curriculum for senior high school and TESDA diploma programs.
Government service
On 2020, Yap-Patron was appointed as the first commissioner of the National Commission of Senior Citizens under Republic Act 11350.[2] She oversees Regions XI and XIII and leads the implementation of key senior citizen programs.
She also advocates for inclusive and community-based care facilities for older persons in Tagum City, Quezon City, Zamboanga, and Tanay.[4]
