Nissanka Senadipathi
Yapa Nissanka Senadipathi (Sinhala: නිශ්ශංක සේනාධිපති; born 7 December 1963) is a Sri Lankan business executive and former military officer. He is best known as the founder and chairman of Avant Garde Maritime Services (AGMS), a private security firm involved in maritime security operations.
Early Life and Education
Senadipathi was born on 7 December 1963. He received his primary and secondary education at Isipathana College in Colombo.[1]
Military Career Following his education, Senadipathi joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1985. He was commissioned as an officer in the Commando Regiment. He served in the military for 12 years, retiring with the rank of Major before entering the private sector.
Business Career
Avant Garde Maritime Services
Senadipathi is the Chairman of Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd. The company gained prominence for its involvement in providing maritime security for commercial vessels traversing the Indian Ocean, specifically in High Risk Areas (HRA) prone to piracy. The company operated floating armories in collaboration with Rakna Araya Lanka Ltd (RALL), a state-owned business entity affiliated with the Ministry of Defence.[2]

Senadipathi and his company have been the subject of significant media coverage and legal scrutiny in Sri Lanka, primarily regarding the "Avant Garde Floating Armory" case.
Floating Armory Investigation Following the 2015 Sri Lankan presidential election, the Sri Lanka Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched an investigation into the legitimacy of the floating armory docked at the Galle Harbour. Allegations were raised regarding the possession of automatic weapons and the legality of the agreements between Avant Garde and the government.[3]
Legal Proceedings Several cases were filed against Senadipathi and other officials by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the Attorney General's Department. These cases involved allegations of unlawful possession of firearms and causing financial loss to the state.
In proceedings before the Colombo High Court, Senadipathi has faced various indictments related to the floating armory.
