Emma Thompson, a midcourter with both Australian and New Zealand citizenship, has a netball history that includes playing in both countries. She spent all of her junior netball playing in Australia coming through the state pathways, then moved to New Zealand in 2020. Her stint with the Northern Marvels NNL team was cut short due to COVID-19 and she returned to Australia. She developed and built her skills playing for the Giants Academy and competing in the 2022 Australian Netball Championships. She also represented the Panthers Netball in the NSW Premier League team^[1]. Following her campaign in NSW, she returned to New Zealand, playing for the Mainland Tactix as an Apprentice player and then eventually earning her contract with the Northern Stars in the ANZ Championships. ^[2]

• Early Years: Emma Thompson began her netball journey in Australia, later developing her skills in the Giants Academy Team and NSW Premier League. ^[3]
• Move to New Zealand (2020): She was selected for the Northern Marvels NNL team, but her time there was cut short due to the pandemic, and she returned to Australia. ^[4]
• Return to New Zealand (2023): She returned to New Zealand as an Apprentice Player for the Tactix, also playing and training alongside for the Mainland NNL team. ^[5]
• ANZ Premiership Contract: Her strong performances led to her securing a contract with the Northern Stars for the 2024 ANZ Championship season, marking her entry into the elite level of New Zealand netball. ^[6]
• 2024 Season: Thompson worked her way back into the starting seven for the Norther Stars following a serious concussion sustained in preseason. ^[7] Following an intense rehab process she was finally cleared to play^[8] and returned to the ANZ championship, where she sustained an ACL injury which ruled her out for the remainder of the season. ^[9]
• 2025: Thompson will be sidelined for the 2025 season due to a knee injury. ^[10]
