Dr Julia Charity is an Award-winning scientist turned Entrepreneur based in Rotorua, New Zealand. She founded New Zealand's Homestay Network, just ahead of the Rugby World Cup in 2011. The 'Look After Me' network showcases the very best of New Zealand's hospitality, providing affordable, welcoming accommodation to guests.
Julia was recently involved as Project Lead for the filming of China's reality TV show 'Daddy, where are we Going?. in New Zealand. The two episodes, each of 100 minutes, were viewed by estimated audiences of 404 million.
Formerly, Julia was a scientist and Project Manager at Crown Research Organisation - Scion, in Rotorua for over 15 years. Julia is an effective communicator, as evidence by her nomination for the Science Communicators Award and a 100% track record in publishing.
Julia is actively involved in the Entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Bay of Plenty, including the Plenty of Innovation programme in Tauranga, Rotorua X and Rotorua's Chamber of Commerce. Passionate about her community, Julia has been a member of the Zonta Club of Rotorua for over ten years.
Julia lives in Rotorua with her 9 year old daughter, Alice and her gently aging Border Collie Luca. In her spare time, Julia loves walking, running and socialising with friends. Julia is a member of Rotorua's Mad Poet society and performs and publishes regularly. Julia's dream is to contribute to New Zealand literature through creative writing.
