"Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse" is the twenty-fourth episode of the fourth season of the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was aired on 9 May 1994, and guest-starred Ben Vereen as Lou Smith, Will's biological father. The episode is notable for its final scene, in which Will (Will Smith) breaks down after a rant about Lou's neglect, a scene considered by many publications to be the "saddest Fresh Prince episode ever".
