The Lillian and Betty Ratner School is an independent, coeducational Montessori Preschool (ages 20 months - 6 years) and Day School for grades 1-8.

The Ratner School is located in Pepper Pike, Ohio, an east side suburb of Cleveland. In addition being known for its rigorous academic Day School, the school has established an environment enriched by universal Judaic values, Montessori influence and a mosaic of diverse cultures. Sam Chestnut is the current Head of School, having assumed the position in June, 2008.

Student Life

Customized educational opportunities encourage students to be themselves, think and learn in their own way, find their voice and excel by their own means and talents. In addition to strong core academics, the Day School features foreign language courses, smaller age-blended classrooms with a favorable student-teacher ratio, integrated arts and instrumental music, and lab-bassed science and technology.

The school community incorporates a mosaic of cultures that are racially, religiously and ethnically diverse. There is an ongoing process of connecting the school community to traditions, languages, arts, and geographies of the world in order to encourage global citizenship. Embracing these cultures translates into programs and celebrations which include a World Cultures course, Sukkot, Black History Month, Diwali, Lunar New Year, and Passover.

The Montessori Program

Originally founded by Lillian Ratner as a Montessori Preschool, The Ratner School honors Dr. Maria Montessori's methods using sensorial materials to support students' intellectual discovery in the areas of practical life, language, math, science and geography. The Lillian and Betty Ratner School is affiliated with AMS (American Montessori Society).

Athletics

Through the direction of Coach James Hailey, the School offers competitive sports beginning in the sixth grade. Both males and females can play and compete in soccer, basketball and track.
