My name is David Potter. I'm a consultant to the broadcast industry and I try to stay up-to-date on industry trends in media production and distribution, especially with regards to technology.

To date, I've contributed little to Wikipedia on these topics. I've found it more enjoyable to write articles that require research into topics not associated with my profession. I'll try to use this page to highlight the general themes for such topics.

I currently live in Southern California, although I've previously resided in Montana, Oregon, Northern California, New Jersey, Japan and Georgia.

I maintain a small wine collection that currently is fluctuating between 60 and 100 bottles. I began collecting wine in 1994, concentrating chiefly on Bordeaux wine and Bordeaux varietals produced in California (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot). I am also a great fan of Meritage wines, which are structurally very similar to Bordeaux blends. I've been introducing myself to Burgundies lately, and I suspect that I'll need to add some shelf space.

I've been contributing a lot to wine-related topics on Wikipedia recently.

I currently shoot with either my Ricoh Diacord, a twin-lens reflex, medium-format camera similar to Rollei's Rolleiflex, or my Nikon N90 SLR. Favorite films? Unquestionably Fuji Velvia for color, TMAX-100 for B&W. I've been with photo.net since "Travels With Samantha" and "How to be a Web Whore Just Like Me." Greenspun rocks.

I've tinkered with some digital cameras, but I'll always own a film camera. I suppose that the majority of my photos will be digital once I can get an affordable 12 megapixels, fast response time, continue use my existing Nikon lenses (hopefully without changing the effective focal length) on a camera that still lets me reverse my lenses for macrophotography.

Wow, I'm really intrigued by the International Phonetic Alphabet. Trying to learn all I can about it so I can be a little bit more proficient at transcribing phonemes.

I've been reading quite a bit lately about some lost cities, a topic that has a weird attraction for me. I wrote an article on Thapsacus recently, and enjoyed digging through some very interesting texts. Could be a bit better if I get some help with the Hebrew and French.
