Spheres of interest: ancient Egypt, history of Egyptology and other oriental studies, early travellers to North Africa and the Middle East, Napoleonic history, ancient Romans.

Started by contributing to a small number of pages on Egyptology (a.o. Saqqara, Tutankhamun) in Dutch and English (2009-2010). I studied Egyptology (MA, Leiden University, 1997). It is tempting to become very active on ancient Egyptian topics in Wikipedia, an area which still needs much improvement (content, structure, consistency, spelling, ...). Instead, I've chosen to focus on history of Egyptology and related fields.

When contributing to Wikipedia in one language, I try to take corresponding articles in other languages (Dutch, English, to a lesser extent French and German, occasionally Italian) and relevant Wikidata items into account as well.

Highlighted contributions

2014: Created page on the Netherlands Institute for the Near East (Dutch: Nederlands Instituut voor het Nabije Oosten) and added related info about (ancient) oriental studies in the Netherlands – including the Online Egyptological Bibliography, which was a Dutch project 1948-2001. At a public writing session in Leiden, created Dutch page Emily Ruete/Sayyida Salme and added her portrait, now used on various language versions of this article.

2015, 2019-20: Created and/or added info on pages of several (late) Dutch orientalists.

2019: Started updating relevant Wikidata items when editing Wikipedia.

2020-2021: Created new articles Frank Scholten and Felix Peiser (having created their Dutch equivalents, and digitised their portraits). Created new page Elisabeth Pauli.

2022: Updated Alexine Tinne's name in Wikidata and several Wikipedia language versions (see her Talk page).

2022-2025: Created new articles C. Blankenberg-van Delden, Arie Abraham Kampman, International Association of Egyptologists, Herta Mohr, Böhl Collection, Stephan Zizinia. After creating nl:Giovanni d'Anastasi, rewrote and substantially expanded the corresponding English article Giovanni Anastasi (merchant). Rewrote and expanded Pietro Avoscani in connection with nl:Pietro Avoscani.
