Caferrell is a Los Angeles based spoken word artist who performs her WordBeat poetry with jazz, gospel, blues and reggae music. A writer since childhood, her area of specializtion is using writing activities for healing amd advocacy purposes. For several years she taught a health and creative arts course for allied health students at Charles Drew University of Science and Medicine and currently hosts monthly poetry-music 'events. Her healing poetry workbook, From Pillows to Pillars, was published in 2001 and is available through AuthorHouse or through bookstore orders. Charlotte Sista C Ferrell's poetry deals with social change, hope, Afri-centric culture, woman hood and spiritual transformation. She recently created "Just for You" as a soothing, rejeuvinating poem for classmates attending a memorial service during the Sumner Class of 64 Reunion in Kansas City, Kansas. "Sista Friends" is a tibute poems that was originally created for a women's women's awards luncheon. Recently she collaboratd with vocalists-musicians April and Matilda Haywood to incorporate music and a song that has had audiences of women and men clapping and dancing through the stanzas that positively affirm how women help each other thouth life's challenges and celebrations. Charlotte Ferrell's first poem, Ode to a Yellow Rose, was published by the Kansas City Star when she was 16. Now -nearly six decades later- her work has been published in the LA Times, Sparrowgrass, The National Library of Poetry, the Black Writers Association and Voices in Print. Her WordBeat poetry CDs are among the first poety works digitialized for sale by CDBaby.com. She presents healing amd motivational poetry performances and workshops for churches, conferences, veterans groups, recovery programs, colleges, community classrooms and open mike gatherings.
