Bob first travelled to the U.S.A. in September 1972 to attend Lawrence Academy, Groton, Massachusetts for the duration of the Soccer Season. He went on to become a Letter winning Senior for Soccer and a Non Letter winning Senior for American Football. He was later named in the All State, All New England and All American Soccer Teams.

In February 1973 he signed as a professional soccer player with the Boston Astros of the A.S.L., 1976 Signed with the Boston Minutemen of the N.A.S.L. and ended his playing career in the U.S. with the New England Oceaneers. During this time he was heavily involved in promoting Soccer to many of the Schools throughout Massachusetts, coached College Soccer in Vermont and worked at a number of Soccer Camps. Bob returned to Scotland and during this time he continued travelling to and from the U.S.on a regular basis gaining 35 years experience of playing, coaching and observing the Soccer scene in the U.S.

He now operates American Future Skills encouraging U.K. Students to travel to Soccer Camps in the U.S.A. in 2008 and in the Spring of 2009 will introduce Residential and Day Soccer Camps in Southern England during the Spring School break and in the Summer Soccer Camps in York, England and Edinburgh, Scotland.
