Tymovsky District (Russian: Ты́мовский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.^[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Tymovsky Urban Okrug.^[5] It is located in the center of the Island of Sakhalin. The area of the district is 6,312.7 square kilometers (2,437.3 sq mi).^[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Tymovskoye.^[1] Population: 16,212 (2010 Census);^[3] 19,099 (2002 Census);^[7] 25,774 (1989 Soviet census).^[8] The population of Tymovskoye accounts for 48.5% of the district's total population.^[3]

Geography

The Tym River passes through the district in a roughly south-north direction.
