County in Golestan, Iran
Torkaman County (Persian : شهرستان ترکمن )[ a] is in Golestan province, Iran . Its capital is the city of Bandar Torkaman .[ 3] [ b]
History
After the 2006 National Census, Gomishan District was separated from the county in the establishment of Gomishan County . Faraghi Rural District was created in the Central District , and villages were separated from Jafarbay-ye Jonubi Rural District in the formation of Si Joval District , which was divided into the new Qarah Su-ye Gharbi and Qarah Su-ye Sharqi Rural Districts.[ 5] After the 2016 census, the village of Si Joval was elevated to the status of a city.[ 6]
Demographics
Population
At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 122,218 in 25,295 households.[ 7] The following census in 2011 counted 72,803 people in 17,772 households.[ 8] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 79,978 in 21,315 households.[ 2]
