Broadly based on the earlier 8800 series tramcars introduced in 2009, the 8900 series trams have a more angular external design.[1] A total of eight cars are scheduled to be delivered by the end of fiscal 2016, replacing earlier 7000 series tramcars.[1][needs update]The new cars cost approximately 180 million yen each.[2]
Operations
Based at Arakawa Depot, the 8900 series tramcars operate on the sole remaining tram line in Tokyo, the Toden Arakawa Line.
