The development of the school has at times been fraught and controversial. The school's planning application was rejected in July 2015 due to traffic and safety concerns.[3] The school initially opened in industrial units on the Manor Royal Business Park in 2014, and applied for development permission on the site.[3] In addition to opposition in relation to parking, noise and traffic,[3] the application was also opposed by the Manor Royal business group which opposed any non-business development within the Manor Royal.[4]
Current Standing
Currently The Gatwick School is seen as an outcast to the current schools in Crawley due to its new and controversial history. The school faced much recent criticism by the appearance of the school as it has been to make children feel as in a factory or in a psychological institution causing multiple related hospital cases. It has also been criticized by the local environmental council as they have been selling their trees and have no grass due to lack of funding or possibly corruption. They have also been criticized by Childline due to its cruel policy forcing innocent children to line up and punishes them for talking, as they have mentioned "It connotates similarities with [the novel] 1984." This lack of funding has also been noted from its inadequate outdoor facilities such as a playground that is just a car park.
