"th1 [evnslower]" was originally released as part of a large collection of songs published on SoundCloud by James, under the username of "@user18081971".[1] On 18 June 2024, the release of Selected Ambient Works Volume II (Expanded Edition) was announced. Once the tracklist for the reissue was revealed, it was confirmed that the Expanded Edition indeed contained th1 [evnslower].[2] On 4 September 2024, the track was officially released onto streaming services, and given brand new artwork similar to that of the tracks within Selected Ambient Works Volume II.[3][4] On 4 October 2024, the track was officially released on CD, LP and cassette as a part of the Expanded Edition.[5]
Reception
When talking about the new tracks for Disquiet, Marc Weidenbaum called the track "glacially slow".[1] Anagricel Duran of NME called the track "stripped-back", and said it features "haunting and eerie soundscapes reminiscent of an intergalactic horror film".[6] Gemma Ross, discussing the track for Mixmag, said that it "traverses eerie, ambient soundscapes" and called it a "hauntingly stripped-back piece".[7]
