I've revamped UCLA's template based on my pan-UC'able, UCSC-class navigational template series (User:Dynaflow/Crap-I-Made), using the information from UCLA's previous template, in order that UCLA's page footer might match the other UCs'.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the rather brutish way I absentmindedly cropped the Powell library photo in GIMP, but I'm sure someone who cares more about it than I do will happen along one day and fix it. The current picture is too thick, leaving the viewer unsatisfied in the way you feel when settling for the potato wedges at a fish'n'chips joint when what you really want are In-n-Out fries. Someone will solve this problem; I'm sure of it. Hooray for massively-distributed projects! --Dynaflow 06:11, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-04-27T06:11:00.000Z","author":"Dynaflow","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Dynaflow-2007-04-27T06:11:00.000Z-If_Cal's_new_template_and_UCLA's_old_template_got_drunk_one_night_and_mated,_wha","replies":["c-Dynaflow-2007-05-05T09:23:00.000Z-Dynaflow-2007-04-27T06:11:00.000Z"],"displayName":"--Dynaflow"}}-->

[cross-posted from the picture] I have deliberately made the cropping job on temporary picture I uploaded even uglier in the hopes that someone at UCLA will get off his or her ass and take a replacement picture, as per my request at UCLA's Talk page. Who, oh who, will answer the call? Just take the picture and click "Upload new version;" it doesn't really matter if it fits the file name or not. The replacement picture must be of about these currect dimensions, or else the image will look really bloated and ugly in the UCLA template, like the image this current one replaced did. Just make sure the new photo is kosher in regards to WP:F. --Dynaflow 09:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-05-05T09:23:00.000Z","author":"Dynaflow","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Dynaflow-2007-05-05T09:23:00.000Z-Dynaflow-2007-04-27T06:11:00.000Z","replies":[],"displayName":"--Dynaflow"}}-->

Request The external link to the UCLA Bruin Life Yearbook Archive was removed with this template. I would like to please add it back next to the Daily Bruin link. The UCLA Bruin Life Yearbook has been the official record of history and tradition at UCLA since the 1919-1920 school year when the Southern Branch of the University of California became UCLA. The yearbook has garnered a number of industry awards through the years, including recognition in national competitions more than 30 times. The yearbook archive contains portrait pictures of thousands of UCLA alumni, faculty and staff. In addition, the yearbook archive includes sections on student clubs, athletics, greek life, famous speakers, rock bands, honor societies, military groups, student publications, dorm life, academics and many other categories of information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbmichael (talkcontribs)

Adding an external link to a template for intra-wiki navigation does not make any sense. See WP:NAV. The correct place to want to put an external link would be in the main article UCLA, and the appropriate place to discuss that addition would be on that article's Talk page. I see that you have opened a thread at Talk:University of California, Los Angeles, and you should continue your discussion there. --Dynaflow babble 05:38, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-07-03T05:38:00.000Z","author":"Dynaflow","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Dynaflow-2007-07-03T05:38:00.000Z-Request","replies":[],"displayName":"--Dynaflow"}}-->

I used the "identity colors" recommended on page 24 of UCLA's Graphic Standards Manual: #536895 for the blue and #FFB300 for the gold. It's possible that the contrast between the colors (which one doesn't normally see set one atop the other in official publications) is causing this kind of optical illusion. --Dynaflow babble 09:03, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2009-04-04T09:03:00.000Z","author":"Dynaflow","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Dynaflow-2009-04-04T09:03:00.000Z-Purplebackpack89-2009-04-04T02:47:00.000Z","replies":[],"displayName":"--Dynaflow"}}-->

@Corkythehornetfan: Your last edit changed the blue encoding from "background-color:#3284BF; color:#FFFFFF;" to "{{CollegePrimaryStyle|UCLA Bruins|color=white|border=0}}". AFAIK, the academic and athletic colors are still different at UCLA. UCLA Blue—used by academia—is 3284Bf (per above), while True Blue—used by athletics—per the WP article is 0073CF, which is the same value at Module:College color/data that CollegePrimaryStyle indirectly uses. I tried to convey this in the hidden text comments and in this thread here. Perhaps it failed, or am I missing something? Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 17:05, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2015-03-22T17:05:00.000Z","author":"Bagumba","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Bagumba-2015-03-22T17:05:00.000Z-Bagumba-2015-03-22T09:20:00.000Z","replies":["c-Corkythehornetfan-2015-03-23T06:33:00.000Z-Bagumba-2015-03-22T17:05:00.000Z","c-Corkythehornetfan-2015-03-23T19:24:00.000Z-Bagumba-2015-03-22T17:05:00.000Z"]}}-->
Bagumba, no, you didn't miss anything... I just forgot to update the colors at Module:College color/data when I updated the articles. Thanks for the catch! I looked at the Branding guide and they have all sorts of blues, but the 3284BF looks as if that is the correct blue for both academics and athletics. What do you think?
As for your hidden message, it worked great. When I changed to the blue encoding from "background-color:#3284BF; color:#FFFFFF;" to "{{CollegePrimaryStyle|UCLA Bruins|color=white|border=0}}", I meant that the blues were the same but I've excluded the gold because the academics gold and athletics gold were different... pretty much what you said. The only reason I changed it to the template was so that others couldn't go changing it without going through the module. I hope that clears it up and if not, I'll try and re-word it differently. My understanding is that they are different blues. From the Graphics Standard Manual from UCLA in 2001 here on p. 9, it says "For the purposes of uniforms and sportswear (primarily textiles), UCLA Athletics has adopted different color specifications. Do not reproduce the UCLA logo in athletic colors." Sources are pretty clear that the blue for athletics, True Blue, is Pantone 285.[1] What I'm not sure is where the encodings at True Blue (color) came from. For example, they don't match what is at https://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/pantone.aspx?pg=20187&ca=10 On the other hand, the encodings at UCLA Blue are reliably sourced.—Bagumba (talk) 08:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2015-03-23T08:00:00.000Z","author":"Bagumba","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Bagumba-2015-03-23T08:00:00.000Z-Corkythehornetfan-2015-03-23T06:33:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
Okay, nope, you are absolutely right. I see that they are two different colors now. Looking at their October 2013 guide, the other primary blue shows #347BAD... which would be different than the Academic one. If we go off the current one, we could use the 347BAD or we could use #00a5e5 the lighter blue in the secondary color palette. Or unless there is another one you think we could use. I'm just not sure what to use. That Oct 2013 doc looks exclusively for the academic side. I don't think the alternative color is necessarily meant to imply it is the athletics color. The only thing I see definitively is that Pantone 285 is the athletic blue, but I see disparate encodings online for that shade. Again, not sure where True Blue (color) numbers came from, but it seems that it's been replicated across all encodings for Wikipedia. Nobody got the memo about not using Wikipedia as a source.—Bagumba (talk) 20:39, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2015-03-23T20:39:00.000Z","author":"Bagumba","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Bagumba-2015-03-23T20:39:00.000Z-Corkythehornetfan-2015-03-23T19:24:00.000Z","replies":["c-Bagumba-2015-03-23T20:55:00.000Z-Bagumba-2015-03-23T20:39:00.000Z"]}}-->
I'm going to start a discussion at Talk:True Blue (color) about where the settings for Pantone 285 came from. In the meantime, I see that you updated Module:College color/data to use the academic color. I would suggest to hardcode 3284BF her at Template:UCLA, as CollegePrimaryStyle will be more frequently used for athletics, which seems to be a different color, but discussion will continue at True Blue regarding it specific encoding.—Bagumba (talk) 20:55, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2015-03-23T20:55:00.000Z","author":"Bagumba","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Bagumba-2015-03-23T20:55:00.000Z-Bagumba-2015-03-23T20:39:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
