How does this look? Here's a few suggestions for further improvement:
Check out how it appears in different browsers.
Try to avoid having Rundle wrap onto a second line (I see this on one computer but not on another one)
Figure out how to format East-West streets so they don't expand to fill the whole navbox.
I'm also thinking about an entirely different approach where the navbox looks like a map. Not sure if it will be possible.
Further suggestions are welcome. YBG (talk) 02:02, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-09T02:02:00.000Z","author":"YBG","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-YBG-2011-12-09T02:02:00.000Z-Version_'1'_by_YBG","replies":[]}}-->
Any comments? Which one is better? The latest version is the simplest and clearest - I've just added italics and minor adjustments to wording of descriptions to improve clarity even more. Could possibly use "/" or "+" instead of the emdash for 'Rundle (Mall)-Rundle' to match use of 'pairs' in description (which I prefer to 'groups', which might be a tad confusing to anyone not familiar with the place). I really like the most recent one as it visually hints at the layout far better than a more standard template could. Would it make sense (and only if it's technically possible) to constrain it to a maximum width? Donama (talk) 04:26, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-12-22T04:26:00.000Z","author":"Donama","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Donama-2011-12-22T04:26:00.000Z-Bahudhara-2011-12-22T04:16:00.000Z","replies":["c-YBG-2011-12-22T11:54:00.000Z-Donama-2011-12-22T04:26:00.000Z"]}}-->
I'll go ahead and promote the most recent version. I'm not sure how to constrain the maximum width. The surplus whitespace is the one downside I see to this layout. This could be reduced by including additional information, e.g., by combining with the AdelaideParklands template. Just out of curiosity, if the object is to list the streets and parks geographically, why not create a clickable map of some sort? We seem to be at cross-purposes - I really preferred the old version, rather than the schematic layout. Discussion
Apparently, I misunderstood what was meant by "the latest version". As I now understand it, Bahudhara prefers the original one based on work by Donama (v0 above), and Donama prefers my most recent version (v2). I've added the original above and subheadings to facilitate discussion. In retrospect, I was a bit too bold; I should have waited for more discussion. One or two people hardly constitutes a consensus. If you like, I'll revert my change and wait for more discussion. Is Frome Street, Adelaide not in the template because it was not an original planned street, isn't important enough, or just that it was a red link when the template was created? I've started the article, but didn't add it to the template straight away in case there is a good reason it was decided not to be included? --Scott DavisTalk00:49, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2014-06-18T00:49:00.000Z","author":"ScottDavis","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-ScottDavis-2014-06-18T00:49:00.000Z-Frome_Street","replies":["c-YBG-2014-06-18T05:52:00.000Z-ScottDavis-2014-06-18T00:49:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Scott Davis"}}-->
I'm not sure. I left the content unchanged when I modified the format to be more graphical. I do remember considering changing things in the east end of the CBD but I had not clear idea of what to include and what to exclude and was ultimately put off by the asymmetry caused by the zigs and zags of East Tce. Go ahead and add it if you wish. Per MOS:AMP, "in normal text and headings, the word "and" should be used instead of the ampersand (&)"; exceptions are (a) titles of works or organizations and (b) places where space is extremely limited (i.e. tables and infoboxes). I suspect this policy should apply to article and template titles. WP:AND deals directly with 'and' in titles and makes no mention of using the ampersand. I have modified the E-W streets section so that the tilde (~) character between the street pairs are vertically aligned. It is possible that in some browsers, there is extra space between the two columns -- which would result in an obnoxious separation of "North Terrace" and "South Terrace". If this is the case, please let me know and I'll try fiddling some more. Thanks! Looks good to me. (IE 11.0.14 and/or 11.0.9600 - unsurprisingly MS can't give a definitive answer.)
