Flag

Is there a reason that the Patriotes flag was chosen for this template, rather than the current flag of Quebec? When I first came across it, I actually thought it was a mistake. I'm not saying it's wrong; I'm just wondering. - Eron 02:29, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm definitely not happy with the choice of the flag icon. If there is a need for a specific "History of the Patriotes" category of stubs, then sure, use that. Otherwise, this stub icon needs to be a Quebec flag. Otherwise, it's misrepresentation. Arasaka 19:28, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am also puzzled with the choice of the flag. The current Image:Flag of Quebec.svg would seem to be the more logical choice. However, I think creating a specific "History of the Patriotes" category should be discussed. Flibirigit 17:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The idea, I believe, was to visually disambiguate stubs about Quebec history from other Quebec stubs. The intent wasn't to confuse all Quebec history with the Patriotes. I quite liked it. Many people don't even know about the Patriotes' flag, so it was educational too. I say we bring it back. Kevlar67 01:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I might actually favour the old Fleur-de-Lys, with the flowers at a 45 degree angle, over the Patriotes flag. The old Fleur-de-Lys was around for much longer, and was representative of more people. Arasaka 03:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Using the Patriotes flag is inaccurate. Especially history outside of the 1830s. I also agree the the Fleur-de-Lys, would be sufficient. Flibirigit 23:35, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's a simple bloody symbol of Quebec history, it was a national flag for the Quebecers of the time and WAS the flag of Quebec under the short-lived Republic of Lower Canada. Canadian history stubs have the old Red Ensign, as other history stubs have older flags. Many people stubs have the picture of one relevant person as a symbol, which represent as much the whole group as the Patriote flag represents Quebec history. It's a more specific symbol of Quebec history than the fleurdelisé and must I add that it adds variety and esthetics. I say bring it back. --Liberlogos 16:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your arguement to have a symbol of a very short period in time, representing a very long period in time is rather flawed. It is rather too specific in time to apply to all of Quebec. Flibirigit 05:20, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Than add a picture of de Champlain or Cartier or something. Anything is better than the very modern Quebec flag, which provides no visual clue that it's a history article. Kevlar67 10:08, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The modern Quebec flag at least is a clear identifier of Quebec, by default it's a pretty good symbol for the history Quebec even though it is relatively recent. Cartier's face is somewhat identifiable for Quebecers at least, Champlain's not so much. But I'm not sure either are really effective symbols. But anything beats obscure historical flags.--Boffob 05:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's a symbol of a bloody short period of history (3 years?!), very unrepresentative and obscure. The Red Ensign was there for years, and used officially! The old Carillon is arguably "flagcruft", but less so, and would be a better choice than the Patriotes Flag. That or the current. Arasaka 03:07, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
